Merry Christmas to All - I know this is long, but just wanted to share this jewel that was published in our local paper.

Christmas is that special time of year when our thoughts turn to being a better citizen. Thoughts of gift giving, feeding the hungry, giving to the poor or those less fortunate than us, making connections with those we have lost touch, making amends with others who we have wronged or those that have wronged us. Have you ever considered what our Country would be like if we all treated every day like Christmas? Why do we wait until Christmas to gather coats and mittens for the needy, food for the hungry, or send cards to friends and relatives? Imagine how much more pleasant our communities would be if we were a little more helpful, caring, considerate and giving to our fellow man every day of the year. Is that not what we image when we allow our minds to drift back to a simpler time. Images of horse drawn sleighs parked in front of illuminated store windows on brightly decorated small town streets. Families, Christmas shopping, going from store to store with old fashion decorated bags, smiling and greeting everyone they meet. Cheerful carolers are heard singing Chrismas songs on street corners filling the air with that wonderful Christmas spirit. The joy of Christmas is spread by the exchange of baked goods, home-made gifts, or modest gifts purchased from the local “five and dime”, and pleasantries and well wishes. Gathering with relatives and old friends, sharing timeless stories over food and spirits was all that was needed to make Christmas complete, along with the Christmas church service. Wouldn’t it be more pleasant if we didn’t have such high expectations, such an emphasis on getting the best deal or latest gadget, no matter how far or how late we have to go to buy it? Do we really remember the meaning of Christmas and what matters in our lives? How would you celebrate the holiday if you knew this would be your last Christmas? Think about it for a minute - Where, How and With whom would you spend the Holy day? Then as you enjoy Christmas, doing as planned, try to imagine a simpler Christmas with renewed significance on the true meaning of Christmas.
