He was always one of my favorites.

People who never saw him play probably don’t realize just how good he was. He also played in an era where the QB called the plays and he was a master. He often fooled everyone by calling some play no one expected.

He was the MVP of the first two super bowls. He went one entire season with only 3 interceptions. You will get that many even throwing perfect passes.

He was also a Sunday school teacher. One of those rare nice guys who finish first.

Bart Starr was the unsurpassed master of the two minute drill. If the Packers had the ball, were less than a touchdown behind at the two minute warning, you may as well get a jump on traffic, because he was going to win.

Bart didn’t have the arm of Unitas or Jurgenson, but he still might have been the smartest qb ever to take a snap.
