SAN DIEGO The man who planned to be president wakes up each morning now without a plan.
Mitt Romney looks out the windows of his beach house here in La Jolla...He devours news from 2,600 miles away in Washington about the "fiscal cliff" negotiations, shaking his head and wondering what if.
Gone are the minute-by-minute schedules and the swarm of Secret Service agents. There's no aide to make his peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Romney hangs around the house, sometimes alone, pecking away at his iPad and emailing his CEO buddies, who've been swooping in and out of La Jolla to visit. He wrote to one who's having a liver transplant soon: "I'll change your bedpan, take you back and forth to treatment."
SNIP
The defeated Republican nominee has practically disappeared from public view since his loss, exhibiting the same detachment that made it so difficult for him to connect with the body politic through six years of running for president. He has made no public comments since his concession speech in the early hours of Nov. 7, and avoided the news media last week during a private lunch with President Barack Obama at the White House. Through an aide, Romney declined an interview request for this story.
After Romney told his wealthy donors that he blamed his loss on "gifts" Obama gave to minority groups, his functionaries were unrepentant and Republican luminaries effectively cast him out. Few of the policy ideas he promoted are even being discussed in Washington.
SNIP
By all accounts, the past month has been most difficult on Romney's wife, Ann, who friends said believed up until the end that ascending to the White House was their destiny. They said she has been crying in private and trying to get back to riding her horses.

Yeah, clarification is not a rescinding of a statement.
Keep that hate goin’, though, ansel. It is really workin’ for ya.
Obama never pretended to be anything but the scum bag liberal that he is. The candidate with the "R" behind his name pretended that he was not a scum bag liberal. Nobody likes a hypocrite.
Don't forget the $10,000 bet. Not exactly going after the "little guy" vote with that, is he?
You’d think somebody in the Republican Party would have the stones to act like an “opposition party”....
You write real pretty, but you ain’t gonna win me over with any of that crap.
I’ve met folks of your type. You are just another one of those that set out to divide the ranks and you think you have the only correct answer. I used to eat those types for breakfast and fire the rest of them before lunch.
You can continue to make your excuses and try to defend yourself, but it won’t work on me. But hey, I am sure some are entertained with your nonsense....after all, you do write real pretty.
Switching from saying you marched with MLK to saying that you didn’t really, is backing away from a lie that you thought that you could get away with.
The Romneys pushed these MLK stories for 40 years, Mitt did not just happen to misspeak once, he was saying this sort of thing for decades, even in his presidential campaign he was trying his fake MLK tales, and had to retract his statements.
Yes, reason has ceased to matter - now it’s the opposite of what JFK said - “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”. What this election told me is that we’ve over the tipping point. Stupidity, greed, arrogance, outright stealing, and a corrupt culture have been the winning formula for the rats.
I grew up in CA and would love to go back but that CA is gone forever I’m afraid.
Yes...well, at least 7%. (I heard Romney direct...in a 2007-2008 primary debate...say 7%)
It did not effect the 92% who already had coverage. (Trapped Behind Enemy Lines)
Yes and no. And the "no" part of that caused me to think, "You're funny."
Per MassResistance -- see RomneyCare Now Funding FREE Abortions: A Disqualifier for Mitt Romneys Candidacy [Enabler Mitt]...the 92-93% of those in MA already covered were effected in that they then became taxpayers for others' paid abortions...albeit some of our fed $ already has gone toward that!
Per MassResistance at the above link: When the law was first implemented, there was a $50 copay for a RomneyCare elective surgical abortion. Now RomneyCare abortions are "free" for a $0 copay (or $50-$100 in some plans). In fact, the $0 copay shows up as early as 2008 at the Massachusetts Health Care Connector site. (The "Commonwealth Care" plans cover low-income residents, many of whom pay no monthly premiums.) Of course, the abortions are not exactly free. We, the taxpayers cover the cost, whether we want to or not.
So...tell it to the direct funders of MA abortions that they are "not effected."
Yes, Romneycare did require the 8% to go out and purchase PRIVATE health insurance policiesthe reasonmany of those folks were gaming the systemwalking into hospitals, clinics, and doctors offices, receiving care and treatment, then leaving the bill to the TAXPAYERS. Romneycare required them to take responsibility. (Trapped Behind Enemy Lines)
In January of this year, a favorable piece on RomneyCare from Forbes.com (see http://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2012/01/20/romney-care-massachusetts-healthcare-reform/) said:
At least 24% of low income residents did not have health insurance prior to the 2006 law, according to the Urban Institute, a Washington DC non-partisan think tank. Today, just 8% of low income adults do not have healthcare coverage.
Now...if, as you say, this was aimed at the "gamers"...those skipping out...and if RomneyCare improved it so that instead of only 24% of these low-income people not having healthcare, that only 8% are now without it...that's an "improvement" of only 16% of low-income people.
That's hardly revolutionary...doing something that effected only about one in eight of those with low-income!!!
Well said.
This is what Romney has done, emboldened anti-conservative republicans.
Now we are supposed to embrace Romneycare/Obamacare.
Romney created Obamacare and gave us gay marriage, and during the campaign he restated his support for homosexual scout leaders and homosexualizing the military, and of abortion, and for removing the pro-life language from the party platform.
As we can see from this thread, the man has done terrible damage to the right.
I saw the speeches. I watched the RNC. He was pro-life. Ryan was his VP. I’m sure his picks for the SCOTUS would be 10 times better then Obama’s. ...but really my real concern now is getting the economy back on track so as to improve the lives of billions around the globe. Romney’s 5 point plan was a solid start.
If you want to start your own party...don’t go away mad. Just go away.
Then, contrary to the wishes of my wonderful bride of over 40 years, I will buy a 35 sailboat and leave this country. I would rather die at sea than become a slave and watch this country burn to the ground while we bitch about it from our keyboards.

Are you posting from, "at sea yet"? At least there are no integrated schools "at sea" that I know of:
Go back to segregation in the schools and everyone can be happy.

It was the stealing of the 1960 election by JFK that destroyed California and the United States, it resulted in passing the immigration law that JFK wanted, to replace the American voter.
Me too.
Oh, so he wasn’t “with” MLK in spirit, then, right? Is that what you’re saying?
Could the clarification he made after so many years be done because there was widespread confusion about what was meant over the years?
After all, aren’t we all subject to making statements that get extrapolated into meaning things that were never intended?
Did you ever do your due diligence to see what he had done?
I did. I did that back in 2007, when I was inclined to think Romney was a Godsend. But instead of believing what Romney said about himself and what respected pundits like Hugh Hewitt said about him (and I really, really liked Hugh Hewitt and respected his judgment), I figured I'd better go see for myself. And I was absolutely shocked. Blackirish, here is THE FACT, not revisionist history, but REALITY: If you were to present Romney's record in Massachusetts with no idenfication as to party but only as Elected Official X, anyone who was at all political, right or left, would immediately identify Elected Official X as a Democrat.
Actions speak louder than words. Or do you think otherwise? IF you had truly, honestly, genuinely reviewed his record as Governor in Massachusetts, you would, if you were intellectually honest, have to admit that he was in essence a competent functional liberal Democrat, though in fact a registered Republican.
I don't want to start my own party, and I'll bet a whole lotta Republican conservatives don't want to, either. But as long as 100 percent fraudulent "conservatives" like Romney are considered "Republicans," then voting Republican is voting against our own interests.
I and a whole lot of us here would be happier if YOU and Romney would go away, as YOU guys are the pretend Republicans who are functionally Democrats.
GLAD that you'Ve informed us as to how you're "contributing" to the unemployment rate in the U.S.
And, per Graybeard58's post @ #132, glad to see that your new sailboat lifestyle hasn't had problematic off & on internet connection issues.
Well GB, I don’t know what those posts have to do with this thread, but I’ll answer your question.
I can think of no better place than to be living at sea, but unfortunately, it’s likely just a dream for me. Presently, I remain in my prison and my bride has me learning how to tile the kitchen floor. LOL
I wouldn’t try to hold anyone to that kind of declaration but you have to admit that both the posts I cited were rash at least.
Now you’re boring me..... and you’re starting to argue like a lib.
LMAO @ you and your drooling buddies.
