SALUTE to the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65).
She was de-commissioned today in a ceremony held at the Naval Station in Virginia. She served for 50 years and was the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in the US Navy.
I and my fellow Navy Divers had the opportunity to do a diving job on the Big E back in ‘66.
Mighty impressive ship both above the waterline and below it.
ENTERPRISE, you served this country very well!
OOOPS! forgot to add you to the ping list on my previous post.
We conclude our farewell salute to USS ENTERPRISE with this head-on photo taken only a couple of weeks ago. It is one of the last ever with aircraft still on board. Note the Rolling Airframe Missile on the port bow sponson where the CIWS used to be.
ENTERPRISE served the United States proudly for more than half a century. We salute her and we thank every crewman who ever served as a part of her crew for your magnificent service. You have written well in the pages of the history of the U. S. Navy.
May God bless the nation she served.
ENTERPRISE, you will never be forgotten.
