The spirit of Lassie is alive and well in a dog named Ashapoo. The trusty canine was always at the side of his owner's two-year-old grandson, Peyton. And that was a good thing when Peyton's grandfather turned his back for a minute as he was planning to take the boy on a trip on the family land in Clover, South Carolina, to find a Christmas tree. When he turned around, the energetic kid was gone. But so was Ashapoo. By the time Peyton's parents showed up to join the hunt for their missing son on the 300 acres of woods, they took solace knowing the boy was with his faithful friend.

Uh, I suggest you do some research before hand.
Someone I know got a Border collie and they are very smart but must be kept busy. This breed of dog is a working dog, and unless you are willing to spend time, both moring and evening in providing activities for you collie, perhaps a more sedate dog would be better.
Just food for thought.
I’ve also never heard of cats savaging their owners, much less strangers.
I’d generally agree, but OTOH my aunt has had and bred farm BCs for decades. She has let her children and nephews take those puppies and they have not had much trouble with them in normal suburban life.
I’m still a GS person and still never forget how my long-gone dog outsmarted her BCs in their own house!
LOL!! Nice on board targeting system by the Poochy...2 for 2 on ear shots on the kid!!
TOUCHE!
But I still prefer dogs. Specifically my dog.
Ha! Did I say he’d settled down? He still does ‘circle-dance’ when he’s trying to get away from us, still eye-balls us with that bc eye when HE is ready for his walkie or if I have not yet fed him. Aren’t they a hoot?
Yes, a real hoot. I love it when I am trying to take a nap OR trying to sleep at night and she drops the tennis ball on my head a few hundred time, then squeezes her squeaky pig in my face, then gets that dang other squeaky toy, then she paws me to death until I get up and throw the ball a million times. UGH!! Love that dog.
Hardihar.
GSs are great dogs, too, and smart. All the herding breeds have to have some smarts to do what they do. GSs make good guard dogs as well, which BCs, generally, do not. BCs are a little small to excel at that, a bit too curious, and well aware of their limitations. They do make great watch dogs, however, as their senses are exceedingly keen.
I’ve heard that but it leaves me wondering why do some people carry the surname “Collie”? Could it be that the dog is named after a man as the “Doberman” Pinscher is or the “Jack Russell” Terrier?
Good to “see” you too, FRiend!! Hope all is well with you and yours. When I read stories about fur-babies, I always think of you. :-)
I slightly prefer dogs, too, but I love cats. OTOH, dogs vary so much there are many I don’t care 2 bits for, whereas a few I like very much.
Often it’s bandied that Collies are named for the sheep name typical in the region, perhaps colley. Not sure if that ties in with coal, but I sort of recall talk of black sheep.
Not surprising if people are also named for this. The collie type is very old.
“I sort of recall talk of black sheep.”

“Me too”, said Rip as he chuckled under his breath. “I think there was one in my family, come to think of it it may have been me.”
Do black sheep sow wild oats, eat them or do both?
The exact origin of the name “Collie” is uncertain, although it may derive from the Scots word for “coal”[1] many collie types are black or black-and-white. Alternatively it may come from the related word colley, referring to the black-faced mountain sheep of Scotland. -— says Wikipedia.
I haven’t heard the surname “Collie.” interesting.
When I was 13 I visited my sister up in the North GA mountains and went bushwhacking with her border collie mix when sis was at work one day.
I got hopelessly lost and the dog just looked at me like, “what a dumb kid, follow me” and led me straight back to the house.
