This is cold blooded murder. If you were in the military and did this toa combantant you’d be court marshaled.
And as far as the pay the consequences argument this guy will have a nice cellmate whose not going to be a little girl. In fact Mr Tough guy here should probably prep himself on how to play the little girl role. Prisoners don’t like these kind of cowards.

You’ll be horrified beyond belief at how calous some soldiers can be towards people who are trying to kill them.
And rightfully so.
If you break into someone’s house...I don’t care what they do to you, up to and including telling you to put the lotion on your skin.
Keep your thieving hands to yourself and stop robbing old men...and you won’t get shot by one in his house.

People illegally in someone elses home abandon all rights to life and liberty as far as I’m concerned. I’m sorry that we disagree on this but my mind is unchanged on this matter.
Perhaps the next punk who thinks it’d be fun to rob someone will have a buddy say “hey, look what happened to these people” and show them this story.
You do realize the homeowner here was the victim and was burglarized 8 times prior by teens and had many of his guns stolen. Sympathizers for criminals amazes me. He had a right to defend his property. PERIOD. Was he supposed to serve them tea and crumpets after he shot them the first time? He shoots the girl, she falls down the stairs and then his rifle jams, SHE LAUGHS, and then he shoots her dead. If his story is accurate, her bf or whatever is dead, she gets shot and falls down the stairs and then she LAUGHS when his rifle jams? That druggie was put out of her misery.
