my guess, I don’t know.. pretty amazing,, it’s a combination of pressure and flows when it was warm enough to move and then a freeze or freezes,, I have no idea how old they are ..
You’re warm :-) Google Earth has a lot of Panoramia photos for Dumont D’urville, where this was taken, but none of them even hint at this particular phenomenon. I was assuming it was sea ice being pushed ashore, but it could be deep ice cap ice being “squooshed up”. I’m thinking of this because it becomes blue ice like this from the pressure at depth in the ice sheet. I have no idea of the physical requirements, though. Never saw anything like it.
