He always was. Chose to QB at USC over ND, but it was a difficult choice for him. And, of course, later he employed his large Rhoades Scholar brain in announcing ND games for NBC . . . with the most intelligent and witty comments I have heard from any sportscaster, ever. And he was very fair 98% of the time. We miss him in that role. But, he is where he should be. Trust him to do good things at SC.

Seems I recall a story that both Haden and John McKay, Jr.—the son of the Trojans’ head coach—were sought by Notre Dame, and together, they flew over there to check out the school. However, it was the late fall or winter, and they only took light jackets. For some strange reason, they decided to stay in Southern California.
