>>>there isn’t a Boomer that I know who wants to either be associated with the hippies or who believes that the hippies were invented by Boomers<<<
I know (or at least have met) a ton of them. That’s not to smear all “Baby Boomers,” not at all. I came at the tail end of the boom, I guess, and I sure ain’t no hippie.
But if you live in or around any university town, as I have had to do for long stretches of my life, you meet one after another after another of “Boomers” who think sex, love, peace, life, history and truth were invented somewhere between the moonshot and the evacuation of Saigon.
They are virtually all foolish and fundamentally helpless, of course, but they think, along with our disgrace of a President, that he in fact is the “One” they have been waiting for.
Except of course for those (Bill Ayers, Michael Moore, et al.) who think he is too conservative.
I was a hippie, and I hope that I still am.
I have a different view of the very small, very short lived hippie thing than many here, and it didn’t involve politics, and it didn’t involve kids who were in college.
Yippies, activists, and college students were not hippies.
By the way, Bill Ayers isn’t a boomer, he is the silent generation, as were just about every person of the 1960s who names are known.
If you want to see silent generation (born 1925 to 1945)leadership, then start running the birth dates of the famous counter culture figures, bands, musicians, activists, etc, of the 1960s and early 1970s, when boomers Sarah Palin and Obama, were little kids.
