I rember during the Play Offs in the early 70's when Boston knocked out of the playoffs by Montreal a friend of mine through a beer bottle through the television screen over a bad Ref call at my VFW.

Iron Man, so called because he caught the splash from an RPG during TET and thus recieved a greyish hue and was a Canadian Frog, with a short temper, we used to say he never met a bullet that didn't like him, 7 PH's. The Post got a New TV.

It's my benign and normally civilized wife's favorite film. Must be some alter ego thing.

I think Joe McGrath was the inspiration for Jerry Jones:

Johnny Upton: I’m gonna flash them, Joe!
Joe McGrath: Aw jeez, son...
Johnny Upton: Yes I am! I’m gonna walk down that stinkin’ aisle, and open this faggot bathrobe and wiggle my -—k at ‘em!
Joe McGrath: You WILL not.
Johhny Upton: Yes I am, Joe, and you know why? Because I want you to have a heart attack and die so that we never have to do this -—t again. You and your f-—in’ fashion shows.
Joe McGrath: It’s good publicity! You boys just haven’t been bringing in the crowds like you used to.
Johnny Upton: I’m telling you, ya cheap bastard, in about 30 seconds everyone in the crowd, with the exception of MY wife is gonna be running for the exits.

*Ten seconds later.......sounds of women screaming.*

In the early 90’s I went to a midnight opening screening of “Dick Tracey” (somebody elase bought the tickets). Sitting next to me in the theatre was the guy who played “Killer Kowalski” in Slapshot. We spent the entire movie talking about Slapshot, much to the annoyance of our neighbors. But nobody told us to shut up. Heh.

Heard an interview once where Newman said it was hands down the film he enjoyed filming the most. Except for the trickiest of stick-handling scenes, he did all his own stuff

I’m not really a hardcore hockey fan but I’ve always had a sneaking fondness for the Bruins. Maybe it’s the uniforms, maybe it was Ray Bourque (a class guy in ANY sport), maybe it was Tim Thomas telling Zero to go pound sand instead of going to the White Hut. Or maybe it was Mike Milbury whacking some idiot in the stands with his own shoe. Who knows.

What a great movie Slapshot was. Not really one of Paul Newman's best parts, but the Hansen Brothers were great. IIRC, they were in some commercials just a couple of years ago.

Many of the Slap shot scenes were done at the Utica Memorial Auditorium in Utica, NY. The scene where the brothers went into the crowd actually did happen at a game with Mohawk Valley Comets against the Johstown Jets (Chiefs in the movie) at the Utica Aud. Utica Police responded and a great photo was taken by the Utica Observer Dispatch which I saw hanging in their Office area in the 80’s.

$6.00 at ticket and my wife and I never missed a game.

I was a big hockey fan at the time. I used to regularly go to minor league games and mixed in an occasional NHL game in Hartford after the WHA teams entered the league. I never saw the movie and can't for the life of me tell you why.

My teams are all gone now, so I don't pay much attention to hockey anymore (even on the odd occasion when they are actually playing games.) RIP Minnesota Fighting Saints, Minnesota North Stars, New England/Hartford Whalers, and New Haven Nighthawks.
