You can paint that AR with Duracoat epoxy paint.

Then make waterslide decal with decal paper you can use in an inkjet printer. Place it on the stock and paint over it with a clear coat of Duracoat paint.

As a little girl, I had more than my share of cap pistols, all of them very realistic. Had dolls and stuffed toys too. Neither one hurt me a bit. But forcing parents and kids on the subject is different!
