My little princess is getting older and has been losing a step. I am dreading that last car ride.
I had a mobile vet come over to ease the passing of my 16.5 year old beloved cat Jester as she was dying from kidney failure. She probably would have died within a day or two on her own, but no one who loves their faithful pet would allow them to linger in pain. I felt that the trauma of being put into her cat traveling case and the car ride would be an unnecessary cruelty. The mobile vet came over, let me say goodbye, and gave her the pain-releasing injection on an ottoman draped with a towel. It took maybe 30 seconds. Then he and his assistant took her away for the cremation I asked for. I got her ashes back in a couple of weeks. That was the last kindness I could give her, not to have to go into the car and into a place with strange smells that was clearly not her home.
