Just got my new 2013 version of Kaspersky Internet Security from Frys.com. It's the best anti-virus, anti-malware software I've ever used. And if you print out the rebate coupon and then send it in with the URL cut out of the box, you get it for FREE! That's my best Black Friday buy.
Hard to beat FREE if it works...Thanks for the tip, and I’ll look into it...
I’ve been using IObit’s Advanced Systemcare 6.0 for some time now and have been very pleased...
Started with the free version, which I liked so much upgraded to PRO...Inexpensive for all you get and how well it works...
I just manually run it every couple of days, takes a couple of minutes and cleans out everything...Never have noticed it interferes with anything or slows down my computer...
On the contrary, my PC is healthier now than ever before...
Check out the free download version at CNET.com...I don’t think you’ll be disappointed...
Why do you suppose it’s free? Maybe no one is buying it since Microsoft’s Security Essentials/Windows defender has always been free. (And is better.)
bttt
I’ve been using it as well and I hope MS knows more about their systems than other vendors even though I think they bought this from another company or they bought the company.
Works great and free.
“FYI Kaspersky is pretty closely affiliated with Russian Defense, Intelligence, and Security services.” Surely, we can trust the Russians now that the Evil Empire has expired? Can’t we?
I can see the slogan now:
“Kaspersky - It’s like having Spetsnaz protecting your computer.”
More like fox guarding the henhouse.
Use linux of mac os.
Prior to it’s last update some of the JAVA based fake security warnings would get through MSE. They seemed to have addressed the problem.
I got a free copy of Norton 360 to try out and not only did it make my system agonizingly slow, it also wiped out critical files for Windows XP such that my backup files were inaccessible. I had to completely reinstall the operating system from the original installation disk and reinstall all of my drivers. Then restore from my data backups. It took 6 hours to put everything back. Good thing I tried it first on a non-critical system.
Macfee is bloatware. When I tried it a number of years ago it copied hidden files to every single folder on my system. It was also incompatible with programming software because it kept tagging my new exes as viruses. Removing it was a pain because it left behind so many garbage files.
I’ve had the best luck with Trend Micro. It probably is not as good as it used to be several years ago, but at least it doesn’t slow down the system or destroy my files.
I’ve never tried Kapersky, but I’ve never heard anything particularly bad about it. I may try it.
SPIEGEL: You were once trained as a cryptologist by the KGB. Does that at all hinder your expansion in the West?Kaspersky: No, but the fact that we are a company with Russian roots does. We occasionally sense a certain amount of suspicion. Nevertheless, we are now No. 1 in Germany, are growing rapidly in the United States and even have customers within NATO.
SPIEGEL: Who?
Kaspersky: A defense ministry. I wont reveal the name of the country.

Agreed. I use it personally and for my biz. It has worked flawlessly, and believe me, I have tested it!
I dumped Nortons years ago. It’s tentacles are invasive and brings down the machine performace. And just try getting rid of it!
