In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
syllepsis \sə-'lep-səs\ noun
1. the use of a word in the same grammatical relation to two adjacent words in the context with one literal and the other metaphorical in sense
2. the use of a word or expression to perform two syntactic functions, especially to modify two or more words of which at least one does not agree in number, case, or gender.
Example sentences:
Rend your heart, and not your garments.
--Joel 2:13
You held your breath and the door for me.
--Alanis Morissette
"Fix the problem, not the blame."
--Dave Weinbaum
Etymology:
157080; Medieval Latin syllēpsis - Greek sýllēpsis, equivalent to syl- syl- + lēb- (variant stem of lambánein to take) + -sis -sis
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Syllēpsis Syllepsis kinda sounds like a disease according to old Doc Holiday. That wasn't Doc's real name but he was a janitor in a medical school and listened in a lot so now he's a doctor on the holidays cause that's only time his hands don't shake too much to do surgery. But let's get right to this sillyplus. For the "Clean Underwear Everday" crowd: the use of a word in the same grammatical relation to two adjacent words in the context with one literal and the other metaphorical in sense2. the use of a word or expression to perform two syntactic functions, especially to modify two or more words of which at least one does not agree in number, case, or gender. For the "Clean Forgot to Put Underwear On" crowd: The use of a word the same as grandma's relation to the two Adjusted brothers words from their prison mail (context), but the judge wasn't so liberal and both AdJusted brothers were metted out fourical years for their sin tactic functions in several cases and a number of times when they took a gander through a neighbor's window. Now Doc Holiday, who also does mental work in trade for a beverage, says this syllesis could be like a disease making a person break everthing down into syllables and photons. Doc didn't have any surgery to do(Sombody out there should be very thanksgiving today) so he needed much beverage to get all this out.

Later today I’m hiking to a fellow single neighbor’s house with a baguette of bread and a salad for a shared meal-both her family and mine are limited to phone calls by the price of gas, lack of work and distance, thanks so much Obama...
Too broke to pay attention
We turn to using our skills
For keeping our homes welcoming-
Not for paying Congress’ bills
The syllepsis I would use here
Is there’s nothing else to do
When your vehicle is out of gas
And your bank account is, too
No more pay till God knows when-
Easy times it is certainly not
May as well lay in some firewood
And be grateful for what you’ve got...
I think many of us will be going Galt out of necessity, and appreciating what we have again-Happy Thanksgiving anyhow...

Are there baguettes that aren’t bread?
To: SoothingDave
I’ve no idea-the recipe I use says, in part “Sourdough French bread-baguettes” it also gives instructions for making loaves, rolls and boulles of the same sourdough...
