TV chef Art Ginsburg 'Mr. Food' dies at 81

Art Ginsburg, the delightfully dorky television chef known as Mr. Food, died at his home in Weston, Fla., Wednesday following a struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was 81. Ginsburg — who enticed viewers for decades with a can-do focus on easy weeknight cooking and the tagline “Ooh! It’s so good!” — was diagnosed just over a year ago. The cancer had gone into remission following early treatments and surgery, but returned earlier this month.

Ginsburg had an unlikely formula for success in this era of reality cooking shows, flashy chefs and artisanal foods. With a pleasantly goofy, grandfatherly manner and a willingness to embrace processed foods, Ginsburg endeared himself to millions of home cooks via 90-second segments syndicated to 125 local television stations around the country.

I loved Mr Food! It was always about the food and never about him. He was always so warm and made everything so possible. This is indeed a loss.

Wife and I received some of his cookbooks about the time we were married 23 ys. ago. His Cola Roast is still a regular favorite in our family.

Rest in peace Mr. Food.

My Mom had all his cookbooks and she just adored his personality. “It’s soooo goood!” RIP.

I discovered Mr. Food when I was back east caring for my mom. We always looked forward to his featured recipe on the 12 o’clock news.

God bless him.

I just heard about this on my local news a little while ago. They did a nice piece on him in lieu of his usual food segment. I have tried several of his recipes over the years and have never been disappointed. I’ve thought he was looking pretty thin in his face recently, but just figured he’d been watching his weight. It didn’t occur to me that he might be ill. I’ve also noticed an assistant from his test kitchen with him lately, but again, didn’t make the connection. So sorry to hear of his passing. He seemed like a really nice man.

I guess that just shows how little I watch tv cooking shows and channels.
