You believe Obamites are the problem we face or you don’t.
You cater, coddle and make excuses to accommodate them, or you don’t.
Accommodation got us to this point. Choose accordingly.
Remember, you can lose the battle but still win the war.
Have you ever explained to them why that is? You should.
It’s also fun because he has never been exposed to the arguments of the other side.
I, OTOH, have spent 50 years learning what the other side believes and why. I can slice and dice his arguments whenever I choose, but I’m a nice guy so mostly I don’t. :)
If refusing to have them in your house would accomplish anything useful, then it might be OK. But they are your wife’s family, and therefore yours. I’d agree with those who say, invite them, but warn them not to talk about politics. It’s time for a family holiday, not a political debate.
I don’t know how much hope there is in getting dolts like that to change their minds, but it won’t help to drive them away or break family ties.
If they refuse to cooperate and behave decently after being warned or rebuked, then, regretably, that’s another matter.
Saturday? Take grandma to Vegas.
In my opinion the classy thing to do is accept them and,if the urge strikes you (it's *your* home, after all),attempt to enlighten them...calmly and lucidly.
Actually, the Reagan clan is deeply divided and has been for a long time.
That part remains to be seen, but I fully concur with the rest of your post.
Sometimes you must make sacrifices and do things that you don’t really like to do to keep peace in the family. This is probably one of them for you.
I’d invite them over and be classy for the sake of granny. If they start to run their mouths just just smile and nod and maybe throw in a, “Yup, things are really going to start to turn around alright, just you wait.” Basically give a verbal pat on the head for the youngsters. Maybe they’ll be egged on to get really stupid and it could turn into some cheap entertainment?
Saturday? Take grandma to Vegas.
We’re eating out.
Our true enemies want us divided. The more separation the greater their strength. Shunning them because they are ignorant that individual rights cannot exist within a socialist system requires education. If they don’t understand then suffer their stupidity through reeducation. If they refuse to accept the truth then they are worthy of ridicule. Mock them and they will leave on their own accord.
Yep, and I’m sorry, but I do not believe it is proper to put family ahead of country. It’s a really awful decision, but only big government - meaning liberals - can force that decison.
Small government conservaties, by defintion of what we believe, would never force anyone to choose between family and country. Only someone who thinks government should have their greedy paws into every facet of life forces that decision.
Sorry, this is no longer a polite society nor a free country any more, and be damned if blood will prevent me from calling a spade a spade. (is that racist?)
You’re right, I should. He was a former bigshot in the plumbers union but she assured me that she was on the opposite side politically.
Well, she lied, and the next time she stops over and asks if she can pick a few tomatoes I will tell her no and I will tell her why.
The only family allowed near me are the wife and kids. The rest of 'em can go climb a tree and fall out for all I care.
I don't disagree, however, we're now backed against a wall and fighting for our very survival as a Free Country.
It's time to fight fire with fire, imho.
So, how far would you go to keep peace in the family? How far would you have gone in Germany in the 1930’s? How about Cuba? What if a relative were an al Quada recruit? Really, “peace in the family” is such a meaningless cliche when the nation is falling apart - but I would like to know, is there a point where you draw the line in the sand?
