I have a busted Drake DX-4 and TX-4 in another room. The condensers gave up all at once when I applied power after a few years deployed.

I'm still torn between selling them as parts radios, or putting the effort into rebuilding them.

The problem knocked out the main transformer... that's a sticking point.

Sweet radios. I spent a lot of time on them, CW and SSB. Nice part was that you could put a glass coffee pot over the finals and keep it warm all night long.

Never heard of a DX-4
Do you mean R4 and TX-4 separate RX and TX units?
The transceivers were TR-3 and TR-4. They had external power supply.

Electrolytic caps dry up and can turn into fuses. Maybe a blanket electrolytic replacement with new would get things rolling again and help to keep the smoke inside a bit longer?
