Track is nice, but whoever is in charge of the race here is clueless. Nothing marked to get in/out, huge lines everywhere, GA sections are unseeded/unsoded. Not sure if the cash-only at all of the booths is just F1 or if they had satellite issues, but was not hearing many good things today - except for people saying it’ll get better because it’s the first day (but of course - also the day with the fewest people).
I’m sure it’s a huge challenge to open up a built from scratch facility with your biggest event. All your working grunts are pretty much neophytes.
When they had F-1 at Indy it was small potatoes, relatively, 100k people vs 250k for the 500.
I know at Kentucky last year they had Sprint Cup for the first time, they had 10 yrs of experience with smaller crowds (30K for Indy and Nationwide) when the 100k showed up it was still a disaster.
Local liberal rag says AT&T is “helping” with the credit card issues - http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/racing/entries/2012/11/17/circuit_officials_working_to_f.html/?cxntfid=blogs_formula_austin
Austin has been clueless about managing traffic for decades, no surprise there. Eventually they’ll figure it out. Hope you have a nice time while you’re here.
