Rear Adms Callaghan & Scott, both killed in the epic Friday the 13th surface action in Ironbottom Sound where they turned back a Japanese bombardment force under Vice Adm Hiroaki Abe.


Two of many heroes that died that night. The five Sullivan brothers also died when the Juneau sank..five brothers. I wonder what they would think if they could see what their country has become..

What would "Uncle Dan" Callaghan think of his hometown San Francisco?

Theres a section of the battle damaged windscreen from his heavy cruiser's bridge at Lands End in SF overlooking the Pacific.

Its a poignant reminder to the dwindling number who still remember their sacrifice.
