I for one felt it shat on everything that Star Wars was about. As a stand-alone adventure movie, it had it strong points, but after destroying the universe, it’s kinda hard to give a crap about a few space nerds in a can. And the cinematography was mind-shatteringly bad.

Just like sports or politics, people who enjoy both have WILDLY varying opinions.

I wouldn’t say that Chris Pine replaces Bill Shatner for me but the series needed to be freshened up.
I’m ok with this kind of “reboot” if it’s done well and I think they did a good job of it.

Also, they all but wiped out the Vulcans when they destroyed their homeworld. That will significantly change the future storylines.
