Tebowmania may have captivated the NFL last season, but Tim Tebows new team doesnt believe that hes a savior.
More than a dozen Jets players and members of the organization painted a sobering picture of the player who rallied the Broncos to the playoffs last season. In their eyes, hes simply not very good.
The prevailing thought in the organization is that Tebow is nothing more than a gimmick.
Hes terrible, a defensive starter told the Daily News.
Although Tebow told The News last month that he has made improvements as a quarterback over the past few months, none of the people in the organization who spoke to The News shared that sentiment.
Both offensive and defensive players admitted that they hadnt noticed any appreciable improvement in Tebows quarterback skills in practice since he was traded to the Jets in March. Tebow has been a poor practice player throughout his career. His current teammates echoed sentiments from Denver Broncos players a year ago about the lefthanded signal callers poor practice performance.
The 3-6 Jets dwindling playoff chances havent changed this mind-set in the locker room: Tebow isnt a panacea.
Despite Mark Sanchezs league-low 52% completion rate and league-high four red-zone interceptions, the players believe he should remain the starter over Tebow, who has accounted for only 132 total yards and averaged seven offensive snaps per game. Rex Ryan has backed Sanchez without publicly guaranteeing that he will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.
Left guard Matt Slauson, who has repeatedly supported Sanchez, made it clear that the fourth-year signal caller is the Jets best quarterback.
Its not even close, Slauson said. All the other quarterbacks know it. I have all the confidence in Mark. We dont really have a choice.

You don’t know much about the NFL do you?
There are tons of Christians and born-again Christians who are quite open about it in all sports, including the NFL. They are not discriminated against.
Why don’t you learn something and google “Fellowship of Christian athletes”.
The paranoid-ness of this site is unbelievable.
Why don’t you look at my post again? I was specifically speaking of his teammates, not of the NFL in general, and I DO believe part of it is that he makes his teammates uncomfortable with his open confession that Jesus Christ is Lord. It’s their problem, not his, but it DOES color their perception of him. The NBA is much worse, IMHO.
Hey,the Jets are the arch-enemies of the Patriots so I have no love for them but...with the way the Jets are going with Sanchez what’s the worst that can happen if Tebow takes the snaps for the rest of the season? I guess they could lose!
Yeah,
Tebow is bad?
It’s Mark Sanchez that’s tops right?
Ok!!
The same “experts” said Drew Brees wasn’t NFL quality when he was at San Diego.
They don't want to give Tebow the chance to look good, so they'd rather kill the Jets instead.

I don't recall any football experts who said, when Tebow went to the NYJ, that he was the answer as starting QB. I don't know of any football experts who would seriously claim that he's the reason for their failure. Yet this makes up the essence of the Jets/Tebow stories: "Yeah, the Jets stink...And that Tebow is REAALLLY BAD, so they'd really suck if they gave him serious playing time!" Why go out of your way to take a potshot at a guy who's had little or nothing to do with the team's record?
Sanchez really sucks this year and Ryan has completely misutilized Tebow. Good luck with that.
Uh...I believe the NY Jets are a “terrible” team and haven’t improved! Who are they kidding?
Those quarterbacks were great...but at five years they we reaching their stride....tebow needs a shot....I wish the bears had him....
Yeah, like the rest of the Jets are sooooooo goooooood!
” I wish the Bears had him.”
I wish the Chargers had him TODAY !!!
Sports has become much more of a soap opera than it used to be. Tebow has been a leading subplot for the better part of two years and that worked to his advantage last year and his working against him this year. This year, he would be better off if his name were something like Slauson. It’s like they said when Ted Kennedy was first running for congress (or was it the senate) ”If his name were Edward Moore he’d have no chance”.
