Word For The Day, Wednesday, November 14, 2012-- alexithymia
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
alexithymia {ey-lek-suh-thahy-mee-uh}
noun:
1. Inability to describe emotions in a verbal manner.
2. (Psychiatry.) Difficulty in experiencing, expressing, and describing emotional responses.
Etymology: Origin: The term alexithymia was coined by psychotherapist Peter Sifneos in 1973. The word comes from the Ancient Greek words λέξις (lexis, "diction", "word") and θυμός (thumos, "soul, as the seat of emotion, feeling, and thought") modified by an alpha-privative, literally meaning "without words for emotions".
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!
After the election, I was struck dumb with alexithymia, unable to express my sadness that the Great American Experiment was over.
Here you go, early birds!
If anyone wants on (or off) the PING LIST, please let me know.
You have no idea how upset I’ve been since Nov 6. It is so bad I’ve been diagnosed with terminal alexithymia.
” alexithymia”
Aw geee. I thought it was a word to describe all the girls that are madly in love with me.
My husband was struck with a paroxism of alexithymia
the morning after the election when he came to breakfast and found that (adding insult to injury) Tammy Baldwin (the leftist lesbian) had defeated former Gov. Tommy Thompson for the US Senate in Wisconsin. I think he shoullllllted something like, “Oh, S**t!”
shoullllllted=shouted
Off to the dentist again.
Everybody knows that the game is over
Everybody knows that the good guys lost
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed.
While i suffered from alexithymia after the election, the passing of my father-in-law yesterday has helped to put that into perspective a bit for me. It’s still an atrocity, and i’m still praying that the Mayans had it right, but i have been able to move on a bit from the trauma of 11.6.12.
“A+”
Oh, thank you teacher.
I expected an F for being coy ;), or admonished for being
“dislexithemic” :)
I enjoyed the exercise, but now it is bedtimeathemic for Bonzo.
I look forward to more of your verbal exercises.
I am so sorry about your FIL. May he RIP. SG had us praying.
My only recourse has been to not watch TV and limit my computer time.
Good morning.
You have been in my prayers, xsmommy.
Please accept my condolences upon your loss.
It has been a horrible year.
A++
Perspective is a wonderful thing.
Hi, secret. I’ll be traveling the next couple of weeks, but I should be able to do my Wednesday duties with the help of my trusty (Version 1) iPad.
that’s so funny, i often use the phrase it’s bedtime for Bonzos, when i put my dogs in their room for the night.
Thanks, it’s been a rough couple of weeks.
Thank you.
