For decades, they have been scanning the skies for signs of alien activity.
But having failed to establish any evidence for the existence of extraterrestrial life, Britains UFO watchers are reaching the conclusion that the truth might not be out there after all.
Enthusiasts admit that a continued failure to provide proof and a decline in the number of flying saucer sightings suggests that aliens do not exist after all and could mean the end of Ufology the study of UFOs within the next decade.
Dozens of groups interested in the flying saucers and other unidentified craft have already closed because of lack of interest and next week one of the countrys foremost organisations involved in UFO research is holding a conference to discuss whether the subject has any future.
Dave Wood, chairman of the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (Assap), said the meeting had been called to address the crisis in the subject and see if UFOs were a thing of the past.
I think that any UFO researcher would tell you that 98 per cent of sightings that happen are very easily explainable. One of the conclusions to draw from that is that perhaps there isnt anything there. The days of compelling eyewitness sightings seem to be over.

There is just too much eyewitness testimony from people like fighter pilots and other military types to say that there is nothing going on. I saw a show the other night called “out of the blue” that had some amazing footage that I had never seen before as well as declassified documents that were pretty impressive. Here is a thought. Maybe they are not from other planets but from our own future.
Yes, it did.
At this point we could probably be quite open about our existence, and no one would even believe us. :-)
I agree. Budd Hopkins, who wrote the book, "Intruders" fills some of this other books with that eco garbage, global warming, etc. In one of his books he lifted a line from the movie,"The Seventh Seal". I knew then I need to stop readying.
14 posts til that guy shows up....we’re getting slow here on FR :)
As a Christian I have often wondered if we were not alone in the universe:
How did the memo get out (to other inhabited planets) that Jesus chose our planet to die on to save the universe? Did he just die here to save only humans? Did he go to each inhabited planet and die yet again? Did he die simultaneously on each inhabited planet? Is the rest of the universe sin free and the inhabitants of earth the only ones needing the saving grace of Jesus on the Cross?
Or are we truly alone in God’s universe as multitudes of Christians believe.
I realize that this is not necessarily a religious thread but after years on FR I have learned to post my questions were and when the best theme is being disused relating to my questions.
“SETI gives motivation for some to become even more advanced even though they probably wont find anything.”

I remember the seed for SETI started back in the late 50s.
I was a fourteen year old ham operator reading the theory that high power VHF TV signals, originating in the late 30s, that could pass through the ionosphere would have had 11 years to reach the nearest star system, and 11 years for a potential reply signal.
We are, of course, still looking for a signal from ET, but if it ever comes, it will be many years, or centuries old.
Like crop circles, flying saucers will die a death of banality as the "sightings" go nowhere and make no difference to anyone's daily life.
If "they" are out there they wil not rely on zooming around the upper atmosphere and bending wheat fields to let us know.
I’ve often wondered how far out our tv and radio signals would intelligible. Maybe someone who knows could chime in. Iv’e also wondered if they ever do pick up a signal will we ever find out about it or are there standing orders to report it to the government first.
Do tell.
It's a heavenly body.
Bomber pilots in WW II returning from long range missions in the darkness experienced what they called "gremlins," visions of odd characters sitting on their wing tips, etc.
I am a professional engineer 43 years old. When I was 18 I saw an object that I could clearly see at noon clear skies. It did things no aircraft I am aware of could do. Would have to have gravity control or something else. I was getting off work from plant maintenance job. If you saw it you would be mystified I assure you. There is something to these sightings at least in my case.
Wrongidy wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong....LOL
If there aren’t any UFO’s out there, how did Obama get here?
