I built a cabin near Fernwood (near St.Maries) back in ‘72 and lived there for 6 years. I used to go to Sandpoint to ski (Schweitzer Basin) and Athol to skydive. I found the people to be very self-reliant.
bring your own money since you won’t be making any there.

Lots of environmentalists in Sandpoint. Coeur’d Alene is also gettimg more and more liberal. Rural areas are still conservative. Potlatch is supposedly a booming area for firearm manufacturing.

Too many tourists!
Friends moved to Sandpoint area from Los Angeles about 20 years ago and LOVE it. She said it went 67% for Mitt.

Visit again in January, before making a final decision. Seriously.
I’m in CT, too. But even though it gets a little chilly in winter here, it’s nothing like the northern mountain states out west.
Have you considered West Virginia, or perhaps Kentucky?
