Some Voting Observations (Boortz)

As the days pass, we gain more distance and, therefore, clarity with exactly what happened in our nation on Tuesday. Here are a few stories/observations to consider, and perhaps the Republicans should take note.

The percentage of the youth vote actually INCREASED from 2008 to 19% of the electorate. In other words, the Millennial generation actually seems to be more politically engaged, compared to young generations of the past. This doesn’t make them more informed -- as demonstrated by their overwhelming support for Barack Obama -- but they are showing up to the polls. What did Mitt Romney do to arouse the youth vote for the Republicans?

It now seems clear that the Romney campaign couldn’t even get those people who voted for McCain to the polls to vote for him. How pathetic is that? Will the next GOP presidential candidate once again use this same tired cadre of campaign managers and advisors?

The percentage of non-white voters increased by 2% since 2008, and non-white voters now make up 28% of the electorate. When it comes to white voters, they still make up the largest voting block of 72% of the electorate and Barack Obama only managed to get 39% of the white vote.

Romney won the married vote by 14% over Obama. To put that into perspective, in 2008 Barack Obama lost the married vote to John McCain but only by 5%. Romney carried married women by 7% but Obama carried the single women vote by a margin of 67% to Romney’s 31%. Single men also voted for Obama by a 16% margin.

Obama won the fastest growing minority group by a whopping 47% … that group would actually be Asians.

Remember that turbo-loon Republican Congressman from Georgia? Talking her about Paul Broun. He didn’t cost the GOP quite as many votes as Aiken and Mourdock, but he certainly didn’t help. This is the lunatic who said that evolution is a “lie from the pits of hell” and that the earth is only about 6000 years old. And – sit down while you read this – he is on the House Science and Technology Committee. Well, while we were discussing this ignoranus on the air I suggested that, since he was unopposed, the voters in his district should write in Charles Darwin on the ballot. Well .. they did! Darwin got 4,000 votes! Here’s your story.

I’m not the first person to make this observation, but America’s demographics have changed. If the GOP doesn’t figure out how to adapt, it will be relegated to the history books.

"Will the next GOP presidential candidate once again use this same tired cadre of campaign managers and advisors?"

The GOP Presidential campaigns have run the same campaign from 1988 to now. Perot demonstrated that that plan was old in 1992, when he got 19% of the vote. What did Perot do? He bought time on the networks for hour long infomercials. He explained to people, what the situation was, where it was heading and what his plans were to fix the situation.

What do the GOP candidates do? They race around the country from one rally to the next. They rely on the media to get their message out in 6 second soundbites. In the end, no one knew what Romney's plan was. No one knew what he planned to do. There was no urgency of the situation our country was in other than "become like Greece".

Romney's convention speech didn't address the issues substantively. He and his advisors believe the American People are too stupid to deliver substance to.

This has to end now, should've ended 2 decades ago. The GOP needs a constant stream of in depth messages to the American People. They need to finally find away around the state-run media, after 3 or more decades.

The GOP needs to clean house. Boehner must go. He's a zero. He'll produce zero. Waste no time, he must go, as the failure he is.
