Parting Words

Like many other "baby boomers," I've been reflecting on the last few weeks with mixed emotions. We've seen just about everything that there is to see in one's life time, and many many things that occured for the first time. Mostly good of course, like the things all people experience personally with their families.

I think for many of us it was the death of Kennedy that started it. Saying that we lost our innocence is putting it mildly, but we lost it tens time over again during the 60s, the Challenger disaster, World Towers etc.

Each death of someone we knew as children from the TV, like a Red Skelton or Bob Hope, or sports figures like Mickey, Roberto and Walter P, it reminds us of many things. What more can we experience?

We experienced what it's like to live with run away inflation, where you can't buy gas or mortgage a house, and we saw first hand, ( and still) what happens when the President of the US is weak.

And yet we experienced what it's like to have a president who is strong and believes in the America of our forefathers.

We saw the IRon Curtain come down, and the insidious rise of Islam. We're thinking what more can we experience?

My friends, I think all of us fear that "we ain't seen nothing yet, compared to what we're about to see."

I've read the post mortem posts by the usual people we've listened to over the years. (I for one am going to take a long hiatus from listening to all of them). Some are still making some sense, like Rush and Charles K, others, like Ann Coulter, are shrill and make me shake my head. I think she's now sayiing that our primaries doomed Romney.

Had Romney attacked Obama like he did Newt and the others, he'd be president right now. The primaries didn't hurt him, but let's face it, the primaries showed us here that ROMNEY WAS JUST AS MANUFACTURED AS WE CLAIM OBAMA WAS. That's not saying he would not have made a great president, he would have.

Did Christie affect the results? You bet he did. Why couldn't he wait until there was clear relief? In a few days it was clear that the gov't response was weak, and people were still out of power, looting, dying. But to hear Christie, the president saved us. Had he waited, Obama would have looked the inept leader he is. Why couldn't he have been more like Bobby Jindal?

What more can our generation experience that we haven't already?I can think of serveral things but here are a few. I'll leave it open for others to add to the list.

1. WE've never seen a nuclear attack 2. We've never been openly invaded by another country 3. We've never lived under Marshall Law for an extended period of time, or seen our military take over our gov't. 4. We've never been ruled by a dictator or tyrant. 5. We've never experienced the gold rush or oil booms of the 100 yrs ago. 6. Isreal has always been a country in our lifetime. 7. We've never experience civil war. 8. Most of us have never seen someone shot dead in front of us or had to kill someone to protect our property or family.

I could go on and on, but what is my point? My point is simple. Prepare for the worst as in my opinion the worst is yet to come..Take that anyway you wish...but know too, that eventually all will be good again in this country. Because God will not let us fail though don't you get the idea that's he's telling us something? That he trying to wake us up?

There is no doubt in my mind that what we are seeing must play thru if we come out of this strong again. It will be a time of turbulence to be sure but renewed prosperity.

We have the most energy stores in the world, and our people will find a way to get it out of the ground regardless who is in power. But with those new found riches there will be redistribution of wealth and more socialism, but the masses will be happy, and yes, Obama will be praised for it, maybe to the point of being reelected again and again...(he will find a way my friends...he will..if the people on the doll want him.)

As I reflect, I'm still the optimist, but something tells me...I can feel it in my shoes...the worst is yet to come, and it will hit us like a tidal wave...

A strong comfort though over these many years, is knowing that there are many many others who feel strongly about this country as I do. I find them each in their postings and comments here.

Thank you, the people of FR, for being here during the good times and the not so good. And let's pray for America...

Or maybe you can take a breath and see that those guys were not part of what I wrote.

Out of the millions of Baby Boomers, only a relative few were ever in the armed forces during that time.

Most were firmly here and part of the counter-culture, learning to fine art of LSD, Che, and Maoism.

Like I said, and will repeat CONFLICT AND SACRIFICE WAS NOT PART OF THEIR IMMEDIATE LIVES. It was something the saw on TV or something someone else went a died for. Guess which group is running the nation now? Is it the veterans of Vietnam or the Gulf War or is it the losers of Berkeley and NYU?

Which group became the teachers of Gen X and Y?

Which group created the culture of cheap and quick sex?

Which group dumbed-down our arts and entertainment?

Which ones produced Clinton (both) and Obama or Eric Holder?

Was it the veterans (the minority) or the ones that I mentioned above (the vast majority)?

Stop being so hysterical in your hatred of baby boomers. What generation were people like Bill Ayres, Jane Fonda, Pete Seeger, Abbie Hoffman, Timothy Leary, the Berrigan Brothers, Jimmy Carter, etc?

Speaking of LSD, it was the late, very great Cary Grant who spoke of the wonders of LSD - perhaps encouraging his younger fans to use the stuff. Who knows?

Do you really think the Baby Boomers created the filth that started coming out of Hollywood in the late 60s? That stuff started in the 1950s when the studio system fell apart and the Hayes office was extinguished. Baby boomers along with their parents simply bought the tickets. You can condemn them for that but they didn't create the pollution. (In fact, Hollywood has been filled with dope addicts and sex nuts since its founding - and I speak as a fan! Check out the “pre code” movies of the 1920s & early 30s.) Of course, Baby Boomers and the next generation, continued the trend. But it wasn't my theatrical generation who created the vile “Book of Mormon.”

59,000 Americans died in Viet Nam. I'm not a statistician. Maybe you can give the figures of which Baby Boomers slogged through the rice paddies and which ones sung Kumbaya. Certainly the Kumbaya-types got more press and tv time.

Of course, Christie served himself. In my original post, I called him a jerk and a windbag. But after Obama flew off on Air Force One, Christie apparently literally sat on NJP&L and, voila, the heat came on.

Thanks for donating to the relief efforts. I contributed to Katrina. We all - as Americans - do what we must do. And sometimes we need to set aside for a short while our regional differences.

It isn’t hysterical, and I’m not anything that hasn’t been said before.

Didnt say the radical nature of the 60’s and 70’s didnt affect older people no less. The cementing of the mentality of the times in the minds of impressionable baby boomers guaranteed that it would be shoved down the throats of Gen-X and Y. Which it was.

Create? They didnt have to create it. They just had to absorb it, and echo it. Which they did.

The breakdown in society which started in the 50s and took off in the 60s was CREATED by an older generation of Americans; it wasn’t retroactive! Surely, you know the history of the communist party in America which dates back to at least the 1930s. These older people pushed an agenda of free sex and non-workable and cruel left-wing ideas that twisted the minds of some of the Baby Boomers. You guys simply carried on the tradition.

I’m still waiting for stats on who fought the Vietnam War.

Of course the Left has always been lurking in the background, as far back as the 1930s, a tiny minority... but it was the Boomers with their huge numbers who turned MAINSTREAM America solidly left.

They are in charge of everything now: government, academia, business, and the media. They own America.

Sure there are a few Boomers — the ones on Free Republic — who think differently — but what good does it do to deny that their leftist mainstream brethren are the ones who’ve wrecked the country?

Of the millions of baby boomers a relatively few were Berkley types and protesters. And who raised the baby boomers? Why, the “Greatest Generation” did. After the war we had pent up demand for “fun” in that group. At a young age they had been sent off to war, the women home doing the work and parenting alone and being terrified probably every day that their loved ones would die...brothers, husbands. So, when the guys came home after victory, things had changed. Women had changed because they had been on their own and felt their independence. Men had changed because they had stared down death and had a great adventure.Child rearing practices changed as women were told to use “demand feeding” for their babies (when they cry, feed them...not on some schedule) and Dr. Spock was the parenting Bible. Boomers were raised to be consumers. They were given everything and on some level the protesting was about their deep down resentment of being spoiled. Give any beast everything they demand and they will become aggressive, hostile.

But, what it all comes down to is this: I don’t think that Conservatives tend to traffic too much in blaming. That is what the Left does. We just get it done. It doesn’t help to blame. Also dealing with people as “groups” who are responsible for things seems more like a Liberal thing, as opposed to individuals being responsible for what they do. It won’t help if we pit ourselves against one another. Unless you set about to solve things, the generation after yours, whatever cute name it is given, will be saying this: “THAT generation just blamed what came before instead of standing up and solving problems.” Not what others did do, what you will do counts more. Your parents may have made you what you are but you keep yourself there.
