Ann’s gone off the deep end, too bad. She will end up in jail along with all the other tax rebels. And someone who says they are a financial advisor should know that changing withholding to delay by 3 months or a year means little to a govt. that will just print more.

Still there are ways to direct anger at the justly deserving IRS. Don’t file your return by electronic or even computer printed forms. Fill in the forms you submit by hand, and worry only about accuracy. In fact, be sure to go out of the lines and make stray marks, weird pens, etc. Make them process it by hand in return. They will be bogged down forever if enough did this.

And there’s no reason to stop with that. Leave off some minor deductions. Then a bit later submit an ameded return to get the remaining $10 back. In the same handwritten way.

Yep she has; here's her reply to my email asking her to take off just the "do not file" from her website From: Ann Barnhardt To: xxxxtSent: Fri, Nov 9, 2012 03:33:40 GMT+00:00 Subject: RE: Tax strike I’m prepared to die, you miserable coward. From: xxxxxxx [mailto:xxxxx] Sent: Thursday, November 08, 2012 8:32 PM To: Ann Barnhardt Subject: Tax strike Ann, Please reconsider your actions on this and take out the recommendation to "do not file" from your website. Are you really prepared to lose EVERYTHING that you have worked so hard for? Where are you going to keep the federal reserve notes, gold, silver, etc? I remember well the "sovereign citizen"/tax protester movement back in the mid eighties early nineties. Those people ended up essentially broke and homeless if not incarcerated. Regards,

Similar to what I was thinking. What if enough people (millions) actually did fail to file taxes and make the IRS spend time warning you that you didn’t file and coming after you? Then when the jig is up hand them the tax form and payment that you filled out months ago. If enough people did that, it might have an impact.

I’m a part-time tax preparer and so while I can’t endorse your ideas I do find them appealing, and certainly better than advising people to break the law!

Another point occurs to me now, you can be penalized for not having enough money withheld, or not paying enough estimated tax throughout the year. This happened to me several years ago.
