Gov. Rick Perry's Facebook page is definitely interesting right now, to say the least. There is a lot of talk, urging him to consider having Texas secede from the union.
While I believe that talk of secession is a bit dramatic right now, I understand where people are coming from.
Frankly, I would support getting a coalition behind Gov. Perry for 2016 to take back the White House!
Thoughts?
I live in Texas pretty close to the OK border.
I lived there while in law school.
My whole family (all Texans) supports the idea that if our liberty is more important to loyalty.
In other words we aren’t leaving the US, the US left us.
Not if Y’All get your behinds down here & help boost the White population. It surprises me when people fail to consider that the whole point of secession is to *change* the way we live & restore traditional values to the area of secession. No more federal meddling & sovereignty for the government *we* elect & that serves us. Closing the border & restoring God to our schools, courthouses, & public areas would be Job 1- especially under Gov Perry.
No one, and I mean no one, possesses the ideological purity to measure up to everything required by all the different beliefs in "conservatism" and still appeal to a nationwide audience.
Until those who call themselves Republicans are willing to make small concessions and use a "salami slice" approach to politics, Repubs will stay a minority party - and that's IF they can get elected.
Until Repubs get behind their candidate and actually get out and vote for him instead of sitting home in a huff because of some perceived ideological "impurity", we will stay on the road to the third-world-hellhole-ism of the Democrats.
Sorry but you will be consider illegal alien and would have to get in line to apply. The line will be long since Texas has no income tax and vast mineral resources, ie self supporting. Texas is paradise, take your pick... snow, sunny, mountains, forest, ocean, farmland, clean water, oil and gas. The perfect state for secession.
Hey potty mouth, maybe you should look at where Texas falls in a list of the worlds largest economies.
As to the moochers already in Texas, cut off their free stuff and they will relocate of their own accord. And if you require voters to 1) have a job and 2) pay taxes, you pretty much eliminate the democratic party base.
Something needs to happen to shake their livers loose.
OT but, as to Michigan: Glad you won what you did up there, but have you any insights on why Stabenow won so handily? (MInd you, I just don’t understand many states’ voters. Over in Wisconsin they picked a stereotype Madison leftist over the admittedly dull Tommy Thompson.)
I have spent half my life in Texas. I think we are only a moderately conservative state. Consider that Houston has an openly gay mayor. Austin residence are mostly liberal. There we would already have the New Hollywood for the republic of Texas.
Right now I feel I’m living in a nation much like Germany just before the Nazi’s took over. The only difference is Germans back then had a chance to flee to the USA. Where do we go from here?
“Residence” should be “residents”.
Still, one cannot but admire the spirit and independent minds of Texans.
I still want to see Rick Perry as president.
Of the group we had to choose from in the primaries, his record and experience were by far the best. Also, he’s an unabashed social conservative; Romney, like most GOP-E, was hands off on social issues.
Every major city has a rotten inner core of welfare mooches that enables this sort of thing. Since the second thing after secession would be a new constitution, you simply put in place real voting requirements like having a job and paying taxes. People who work for a living don't have time for that sort of nonsense.
All I want for Christmas is for Texas to secede. I’ve been thinking about Tx for grad school anyway.
You probably don't realize Reagan was a Democrat into the 1960s and less than 20 years later he was the 1980 GOP nominee.
Also, of all the politicians I can think of, Perry would probably be the most useful and skilled in event of a zombie apocalypse.
Secession is for quitters? So Washington, Jefferson, etc. were all quitters for seceding from the British empire?
Absolutely Oklahoma is OK!
Reagan was that rare politician who understood that welcoming those who have come to conservatism is better that chiding them for previously being liberal.
If they do secede, I’ll move there the next day.
And I don’t understand your question about him being President? You don’t need a President when you secede. There’s no federal government.
