Word For The Day, Wednesday, November 7, 2012-- dirge
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
dirge [durj]
noun
1. a funeral song or tune, or one expressing mourning in commemoration of the dead.
2. any composition resembling such a song or tune in character, as a poem of lament for the dead or solemn, mournful music: Tennyson's dirge for the Duke of Wellington.
3. a mournful sound resembling a dirge: The autumn wind sang the dirge of summer.
4. Ecclesiastical . the office of the dead, or the funeral service
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Get your homework in. There is much to mourn this morn.
OK, we’ll play one funeral dirge for America, and then we start resisting these f***ers. Question everything, DARE to write the WH directly and criticize. DON’T surrender to him. And REFUSE to give one f***ing red cent to the RNC.
I'm all for going John Galt on them. Many entrepreneurs have been waiting for the election to see whether they should expand or contract their efforts. With the looming disaster of Obamacare and the red tape of the EPA and the rest, the boom years are over.
Enough with the dirges.
TO THE BARRICADES!
I quite understand.
REPUDIATION.
I was hoping for a dirge for liberal monstrosities and repudiation of a usurper who merely votes “present” when confronted with situations from Benghazi to Sandy’s aftermath.
Dirge
A funeral song sounds about right. The deceased got six feet of dirge dumped on him. We tried to get the swans to sing a swan song for the poor guy but they put up a real flap.
Two year old Lauren will be here in a few minutes. There will be countless people there to express the dirge of loss. Sixteen year old girl driving herself home from a post season volleyball win, too fast, texting her parents that she would be home in a few minutes. Heartbreaking.
Huh.......insert......Lauren’s mom is going to a funeral this morning.

No need to post. I know the definition of “dirge.”
Very sorry to hear that news, Ti.
I had two possible words picked out for today. I didn’t get to use the positive one.
A+
I keep hearing bagpipes.
While we commiserate in our dirge
And looked towards a GOP purge,
We will work and we’ll pray
For that red-letter day
When we’ll finally get rid of this scourge.
Dirge: How appropriate for WFTD. I cannot bear to tune into the news. My husband just learned that Wisconsin is sending Tammy Baldwin to the US Senate. His screams of anguish were no dirge — more a battle cry.
Two notes: Yesterday when I was sorking at the polls, a 60ish voter came in about 2 pm. As he signed the poll book, he looked at us and announced, “It’s all settled. The stock market is diving. It’s all status quo for the next 4 years.”
My co-worker and I looked at each other open-mouthed. Then she said, “It’s just like the media. they can say anything they want. Pay no attention.”
But that was the first harbinger of doom.
Then my husband stopped by at about 8:15 PM, 15 minutes after the polls closed. He said “Fox News Channel has vcalled the Wisconsin for Obama.”
“How is that possible,” I responded. “We still have 900 absentee ballots to count. I’ll be home very late. Go to the Victory Party by yourself.”
“I’m not going,” he said. “FNC called Wisconsin with only 1% of the vote in. What is going on?”
FWIW — The poll where I worked turned out 80% voter participation and the vote for Romney and Tommy Thompson was 3 to 1. We had 2400 registered voters already on the books. We registered another 110 on election day. Romeny and Thompson each got more than 2000 votes at the end of the night. Both the Touch Screen and the Optical Scanner registered the same portions — 3 to 1 Romney. I have no doubt that the poll where I vote was the same, or even better totals for Romney.
We had 3 poll watchers fro the Romney campaign who stayed 14 hours at my poll, taking names and caling them in. I had to admire their tenacity. Hopefully they’ll use that info to build a stronger campaign in the future.
