Be careful. I was asked which side I was on tonight for saying that. Some people don’t understand what you are saying. I do.
I've been saying and worrying for weeks that the reason they've kept the polls so close, is so they can say "See?! It's that close! Folks are that divided."
In actuality, they've stolen the election. With the turn out for R's, and the crowds at R/R events - compared to 0 events, 0's miserable record, etc. you can't tell me this wasn't a rigged deal.
1) The GOP flayed itself out during the Primaries and did not throw its full weight behind Romney from the beginning.
2) The Right and most Freepers filled themselves with a sense of Bravado and wishful thinking.
3) Romney did not break the WASP-Rich guy image and did not speak the common man's lingo.
The GOP has to do some soul searching where we let our hope and dreams dictate our false sense of confidence.
The world clock has just ticked 1 minute closer to midnight...
We threw nothing to the wind tonight. We had a solid team, that pursued a solid strategy. Everyone's inclination has been -- and will be -- to cast aspersions on Romney/Ryan, as if they could have done anything different to win.
It is clear now that no right-of-center campaign would have won tonight. The demographics have finally overtaken us. Everyone saw it coming, everyone knew it was coming. Well it has arrived.
Future elections will no longer be a question of conservative/RINO vs Liberal/Progressive. It has now finally become a basic question of takers (majority) vs makers (minority).
How we survive in this environment without becoming serfs in the next four years, should be a high-priority discussion in the coming weeks.
Sadly, we are all California now. Californians like to state that the state is a leading indicator for what is to come for the rest of the country. While I live in California, I have, to the extent possible, insulated myself from the misery that is our economic state of affairs. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that things need to get worse before they get better. My only hesitation with having the same attitude with the country as a whole is history’s examples of what ‘hitting rock bottom’ means for a nation, and the implications of that for my kids. I fear fighting the battle and supporting a weak Republican opposition only gives the Democrats plausible deniability of responsibility for the mess, while withdrawing from the political landscape entirely and letting the Democrats sink their own ship ushers in tyrannical oppression. Not sure where to go from here...
Parisa,
My revenge shall be to stop spending. We can bring the economy crashing down.
