The residents of Staten Island are pleading for help from elected officials, begging for gasoline, food and clothing three days after Sandy slammed the New York City borough.
Were going to die! Were going to freeze! We got 90-year-old people! Donna Solli told visiting officials. You dont understand. You gotta get your trucks down here on the corner now. Its been three days!
Staten Island was one of the hardest-hit communities in New York City. More than 80,000 residents are still without power. Many are homeless, and at least 19 people died on Staten Island because of the storm. One of the devastated neighborhoods was overwhelmed by a violent surge of water. Residents described a super-sized wave as high as 20 feet, with water rushing into the streets like rapids.
Staten Island resident Mike Abuzzios home is completely gone, with only his floor boards remaining. He, his wife and their two young daughters have been staying with relatives.
My youngest daughter yesterday said, Daddy, I want to go, Abuzzio told ABC News. I told her, Its going to be awhile, hon. She doesnt understand. Shes 6.

Yeah, the irony is they were harassing and heckling Romney for having his sleeves up, actually doing something, loading cans of food onto trucks, and like a parrot “did you really say the government should privatize FEMA”?? or something such, and lo and behold it’s Home Depot, Lowes and business, you know those evil corporations showing up with bottled water and food and clothes.
Meanwhile Obama was “surveying”, nothing more, other than releasing money to Chris Christie, which does ZERO for people that need fuel, food, heat and water, unless he thinks people can eat money and call it cabbage. There’s gas for instance but without power, it can’t be pumped.
AND CNN just reported a nor’easter is scheduled to hit NYC on election day. IN NYC, NJ it won’t matter in terms of NJ and NY are in the tank for zerrhoid, but if Philly is depressed for voter turnout, it could actually impact Pennsylvania, a sudden swing state!
Heck, this woman should understand they’ll be taken care of...all she will have to do is observe that the NYC marathon will start as planned and things will at least seem to be getting back to normal. Chucky Schumer is wearing his FEMA jacket, and the marathon starts right there in Staten Island and with this administration it’s all about appearances, keeping up appearances, NOT substance. If she can just ignore her hunger, not freeze when the 2nd noreaster hits on election day, she’s golden!
I was directing my venom to those who say the power, telephone and cable companies should have a complete plant in their inventories. I used to build cable systems. They want to reconstruct what took years to build in hours.
They are ignorant idiots.
Solli is employed by DOT and serves in the title of Highway Repairer. She is a member of the Union.
