After Hurricane Katrina, it was the church groups that went in and offered the most help. And they did it on a fraction of the money as the Red Cross.
The church groups were the first to feed people and offer real help.
I went through Hurricane Katrina in Biloxi, Mississippi. The first people to show up were the Salvation Army and Red Cross, who fed us out of food trucks. Soon thereafter, the Baptist, Lutheran, Catholic, Eastern Catholic and Reformed people showed up. Then the National Guard and FEMA people a few days later. After awhile, we had too much food and clothing.
