First time for this newspaper since 1972. Iowa is a “swing state” and this is very good news.

Newspaper endorsements don’t mean much anymore. Fifty years ago....that might sway five percent of the state voting population. Today? Maybe a quarter of one percent of the voting population. Who reads newspapers anymore?

The late Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Clark Mollenhoff would be proud of the Register.

Clark: one of the last of the honest journalists and a nice guy to boot.

I heard Rush talking about the Des Moines Register on Friday. He was discussing some sort of beef that the Register had with Obama, and I thought I heard him say something to the effect of 'of course they'll end up endorsing Obama.' It was like an offhand remark.

You might say this is... [wait for it] ... UNEXPECTED!

Register had earlier endorsed all the Rat congressional candidates in the state.

Iowa is so middle America and such a farm state I fail to see how they would vote for Obama in 2012. They were too nice and post-racial, and soured on Bush so Obama won in 2008. But twice for Obama? I can’t see it
