It’s called “water-powered pressure” sump pump. There is no dependence on any kind of electricity. ;-)

It’s harder to find, but as a mechanical engineer, I’m only too glad not to depend on mere electrons!

Nat. Gas is great, but the safety NAZIs have screwed us in many ways there too. I still vastly prefer having heat and cooking as gas. Can’t have a pilot light that’s not electrically generated. Can’t light many pilots any more. Heavens; it might explode if you try. When I was a child, everything was possible to get going. Not anymore.

About the pilot light — our stove has an electric ignition but I can still light the stove burners with a match if I have to. I’ve never tried to light the oven with a match because it’s hard to reach.

But having the stove lit can mean hot food and hot water for drinks, which can help warm a body up.
