Um. Yeah, riiiight. That’s exactly what I’m suggesting. Uh huh. Sure. Yeah, you understood the point I was making....NOT

Perhaps I misunderstood your point but I think you misunderstood my point as well. There is no way the media cannot report on hurricane Sandy and the after effects, if indeed they are as bad as what’s being predicted (and hopefully they won’t be). And that has nothing to do with the MSM’s bias toward Obama or any coordinated conspiracy on their part. Of course that is not to say they won’t try to spin the story in Obama’s favor if they can, something along the lines of “what a wonderful and caring POTUS he is compared to Bush” - that I can see happening if that was your point.

But you seemed to be suggesting that the media is and would be reporting on Sandy as a way to push Benghazi out of the forefront. Again if millions of people are without electricity for weeks in the most populated area of the country, if there is major widespread damage and flooding in places like NYC, flooding out the subways in the county’s financial district; that would be the top news story.

Here is a Saturday link from Yahoo:

http://news.yahoo.com/amid-dire-forecast-sandy-hurricane-again-135151448.html

Aside from storm damage with a 200 mile diameter ring of 75 mph winds, when it goes inland and goes freezing with moist warm water coming off Lake Erie, there may be either a monster show storm or even more damaging super ice storm like the one that did so much damage in NY state and Canada in the 1990s.

>Does anyone look at weather maps?<

I do and I agree, Kart. This thing's gonna be a heck of a mess.

About the pilot light — our stove has an electric ignition but I can still light the stove burners with a match if I have to. I’ve never tried to light the oven with a match because it’s hard to reach.

But having the stove lit can mean hot food and hot water for drinks, which can help warm a body up.

There is some upside to being urban or suburban in a protracted power outage, having a gas line with appliances that run off of it being one. Electric pilot light is a problem with some gas appliances as you note, but having a working stove, working heat, working hot water or a working washer-dryer combo goes a long way toward keeping a house habitable without electricity.

Another benefit can be that water pressure is maintained with a municipal water supply, assuming the water plant doesn’t itself go down.

I’m watching Bloomberg (of all people) on tv pooh-poohing the whole thing.

The Weather Channel division of PMSNBC is positively apoplectic.

rugan: If you are going to call me a troll, a Democratic troll no less, at least have the common curtsey to ping me.

You keep spamming all the hurricane related threads with your wild conspiracy theory and proving your total lack of knowledge of meteorology, and yet you call me a troll?

In the old days (20 yrs ago) the WC was pretty cool.

Now under PMSNBC it’s another propaganda outlet for the MSM to push the “climate change” agenda under the guise of being “weather experts”.

It's no wild theory . been here on the Gulf for many years and been through a lot of hurricanes. Obama’s gov agency NOAA generates the wind speed and a lot of these forecasts. And this government agency should not be trusted but funny that you do trust them and call me insane for daring to question this Obama gov agency. and you should know that the cold water up north will decrease the wind speed of this “storm” but you don't because you have no clue. And the media is calling this the storm of the century but you believe that while you have not knowledge of anything you don't know how the cold water weakens tropical storms( notice the term tropical there )
you are making a fool of yourself. you inow nothing of what you are saying just blind faith in government and obama and the media . you are a troll so go vote for Obama.

First of all Sandy is now entering over the very warm waters of the gulfstream (and yes, the waters off the mid-Atlantic coast this time of year are very warm) so rather than weakening as you suggest, it is strengthening and has already done so. It is also going to strengthen and enlarge as it meets up with the low pressure front which is what makes this storm potentially so dangerous.

Secondly, living in the Mid-Atlantic all my life, I know full well what nor’easters can do. If you are under the impression that extro-tropical Atlantic storms even over cold waters can’t reach hurricane strength, then you don’t know what you are talking about.

Next, the Gulf coast is nothing like the Mid-Atlantic and North East. First of all we are talking about a very densely populated area. And the topography and even the types of trees we have here is much different from what you have in LA. The potential for wide spread power outages is a very real concern as is river and stream flooding.

Lastly I have never voted for a democrat in my 50+ years and don’t intend to do so anytime soon. Calling me a troll and a closet democrat, rather than having a rational conversation with me is making you look like the fool.

I’ve been baffled by that idiot, too.

This is going to be positively awful for millions of people directly, and the rest of us indirectly. But people in the NE are showing good awareness and preparedness, so maybe this will quickly pass.

“all these forecasts are fake hype to get Benghazi gate off of the news and the media go along with it.”

I don’t believe that. I also have no reason to believe that MD Expat in PA is a troll.

The media always hypes storms - they love natural disasters. They must all be disappointed that Sandy is now a catagory 1, last I heard.
I believe that Obama & his minions are using & will use the hurricane to stall on Benghazi. I don’t believe they are in cahoots with the weather channel. The hurricane was a stroke of luck for Obama and he will use it to the fullest in order to gain a few votes.
The liberal msm will oblige in order to get Benghazi pushed out of the news.

I took a few minutes out to check the hysteria on CLN (’Chicken Little Network’ formerly known as ‘The Weather Channel), but when they switched to a story at their ‘news partners’ at MSNBC; that was it for me.

The category of this storm no longer matters. It’s the massive size of the wind field and the amount of water that it is pushing in the form of surge that’s the problem.

Bloomburg says no evacs. He’s so gonna live to regret that.
