The #1 Most Disturbing Thing About Biden in the Debate (vanity)
10/12/12

Posted on 10/12/2012 6:33:39 AM PDT by workerbee

Was anyone really surprised at Biden's behavior last night? I saw exactly what I expected to see. It's pretty much been his M.O. for as long as I can remember: mock, condescend, act bored by the other guy's youth/incompetence/ideas, etc. In other words, just like Putzident Obamugabe wanted, Joe was being Joe.

However, for me, the part of the debate that was truly appalling -- even for Biden and his clown act -- was his dismissal of the concern of a nuclear Iran. I honestly could not believe what I was hearing, as he essentially poo-poo'ed Ryan (and by extention, Romney, the Repubs, conservatives, etc.) and the concern about Ahmadinejad obtaining a nuke.

I know it will be hard to choose, but what, for you, was the #1 Most Disturbing Thing About Biden in the Debate?

Agree with you Madam. The biggest “gaffe,” if you want to call it that, was Biden saying that the Libyan embassy never asked for additional security despite stacks of documents, emails, and even testimony on Capitol Hill by State Dept. officials that they were asking for additional security for weeks.

This, in my opinion, was the most egregious oversight in any debate I’ve ever witnessed. Biden’s either a serial liar, criminally corrupt, or woefully ignorant of the going’s on in DC.

“That was the most disturbing part of the VP debate to me, too, though as much because Ryan didn’t call Biden on the nonsense of “they don’t have a weapon to put it in” and “we’d know if they had a weapon”. Really? We really know they don’t already have a bomb casing with an artillery tube down the middle designed to drive one almost-critical mass of enriched uranium into another on the model of Little Boy? Really? Iran is a big place and a uranium gun-bomb, unlike a plutonium bomb, is a really simple device. So simple that the original test of the design was carried out over Hiroshima, rather than in the New Mexico or Nevada desert.

The Iranians are plainly planning on making a uranium bomb, not a plutonium bomb, and knowing their ideology, the test is likely to be carried out over Tel Aviv or in a container ship in the Port of Los Angeles or the East River.”

I thought Ryan's reply to this was week. I was thinking he
should have asked if we were supposed to watch a sworn
enemy build, load, cock, and point a gun at our head before
we did anything to stop them.

I listen to Mike Medvid on his radio show. Mike warned us that Biden would be O’bummer’s Pit Bull. He really understated his warning. Biden was a raving maniac, insulting well over half the intelligence of the American people. This behavior can do nothing but hurt the d’RAT party.

That isn’t what he said. He said obama waited too long and NOW al qaeda and other jihadi factions are swarming into Syria. He said that the time for choosing was much earlier.

I have a conservative friend commenting on Facebook this morning. He’s been posting a lot of articles critical of Biden’s performance last night. Along with every article, he posts this comment...

“When a wise man has a controversy with a foolish man,
The foolish man either rages or laughs, and there is no rest...”
~ Proverbs 29:9

Kinda says it all, no?

With that oversized, over-white set of screw-in choppers, Biden looked like Jim Carrey in The Mask.

I agree completely. This fantasy that Iran needs some sophisticated ‘weapon’ should have been shot down immediately.

Most people have no idea how different weapons work...and they may include Ryan.

If Iran has Uranium, and Iran has centrifuges, nothing stops them. This is 1940’s technology...not that exotic.

One of the Israeli wargame scenarios is two container ships, in two Israeli ports....a simultaneous attack that could kill 10% of their population in an instant. If we believe the Iranians have successfully enriched uranium, the rest would be about as difficult as a middle school science fair project. No ICBM’s or other exotic weaponry needed.

I agree completely. How can he respond to the Bengazi question, blaming the attack on the video, because of bad Intelligence...and then half an hour later state, with confidence, that our Intelligence is trustworthy enough that he can state that Iran is not even close to having a nuke weapon????

Is American Intelligence trustworthy, or not?

Paul Ryan missed a major point here.

The Libya Cover-Up: The Vice President Dives In
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 8:57 AM

The two substantive foreign policy take-aways from last night's Biden debacle were the Vice President's insistence that we need not worry about Iran because Iran lacks a delivery vehicle for the nukes it is soon to posses, and the Vice President's insistence that the Administration was not warned about the situation in Libya.

Josh Rogin, writing at Foreign Policy's blog The Cable, provides the complete rebuke to the Veep's absurd attempt to turn the page from the disaster in Libya and the president's misleading responses here. The Vice President was quite obviously and intentionally deceiving or wholly and almost unbelievably unaware of the events of the past three days. As Jennifer Rubin pointed out this morning, even Andrea Mitchell had to call out Biden on this whopper.

Had the Vice President not beclowned himself so thoroughly, this would be the lead story, but his wild display of gestures and expressions will dominate the news cycle for a day and then the scrutiny will resume over Libya and it won't be pretty.

Neither will be the focus on the Veep's absurd ramblings on Iran and the mullah's lack of a delivery vehicle for their enriched uranium. Downplaying the immediate and growing threat from Iran will not help assure the key cosntiutuency of supporters of Israel that the president and his key advisors are serious about the threat.

Off to Phoenix to help Vernon Parker, Jonathan Paton and Congressman Paul Gosar in their campaigns to keep the GOP in the majoirty oin the House, but the final word on the debate last night has to come from James Hohmann's headline in today's Politico:

"Was Biden a buffoon?"

Never a good way for a debate to be framed.

UPDATE: See also the WaPo's Alexandra Petri's very accurate take on how the Veep came across.  Dems will keep up a brave face, but the polls will continue their slide as America sighs over the four years invested in the man who wasn't there and the court jester who cheered him on.

Don't miss the RNC's YouTube compilation of Joe's greatest grins and grimaces. Hundreds of thousands of views, and growing.

The thing that most disturbed me about Biden was his obvious ignorance about building nuclear weapons when he said there is still a long way to go after a country acquires enough fissile material (U-235 in Iran's case) to build one. U-235, although much harder to acquire than plutonium, is much easier to make into a bomb. The Hiroshima bomb was a U-235 bomb. That meant it was basically made like a gun with an explosive charge at one end of a tube fining a U-235 projectile into a U-235 target at the other, thereby causing the two pieces of U-235 to go critical and detonate. The gun bomb technology was so well understood in 1945 that we didn't even have to test it. An implosion bomb that used plutonium was what we had to test. Since the Iranians are using U-235, they're probably planning to build gun bombs, meaning they'll be able to do it quite easily once they have enough highly enriched U-235, something dear 'Ol Joe didn't even bother to mention.

If it's in a ship near a major US city, count on it having a cobalt casing to maximize fallout, and thus destroy property values within a large radius.

Congrats. We both said the same thing in different ways about U-235 bombs vs. plutonium bombs and how simple U-235 bombs are to build. Ryan should have picked up on that point.

I agree with that and to me Ryan didn’t have a great outing, though i think he did better towards the end and really came on strong in the last 10 minutes or so. My guess is that he was more concerned with not making big mistakes rather than trying to score a lot of big points. He played it safe and i think that was the right strategy given how the campaign is going right now for them. Obama/Biden needed to be more aggressive but as is the wont of liberals, Biden ended up being too aggressive and turned off a lot of people.

I thought the most distrubing thing, next to the side shot of his waddle under his neck was that fact that he’s been in our govt for almost as long as Ryan has been alive. He’s the problem!
