In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
rectitude \REK-tuh-tood\ noun
1. the quality or state of being straight
2. moral integrity : righteousness
3. the quality or state of being correct in judgment or procedures
Example sentences:
The speaker exhorted audience members to lead lives of unimpeachable rectitude and integrity. ,
"The finance ministry will pitch India's strength as a largely domestic economy, renew its commitment to fiscal rectitude and showcase recent measures to lift sentiment to try and convince global rating firms not to downgrade the country's sovereign rating."
From an article by Deepshikha Sikarwar in The Economic Times, September 7, 2012
Etymology:
"Rectitude" has a righteous derivation. It comes straight from the Latin noun "rectus," which means both "right" and "straight." "Rectitude" itself can mean either "straightness" (an early use referred to literal straightness of lines, although this sense is now rare) or "rightness" of character. "Rectus" has a number of other descendants in English, including "rectangle" (a figure with four right angles), "rectify" ("to make right"), "rectilinear" ("moving in or forming a straight line"), and even "rectus" itself (a medical term for any one of several straight muscles in the body).
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Rise and shine! Let me know if you would like to be added or dropped from the ping list.
While Raddatz shows us she has just as much Rectal-tude as any of the Lamestream media.
In yesterday’s Congressional hearings on Benghazi, the Republicans were demanding rectitude from the Administration, and finding little.
Looks like Ryan is pumped: .....
Rectitude prevents me from making some very naughty puns.
But I see they're still furiously brooming away, in hopes of removing any evidence of their incompetence even though the blood stains are right there on their clothes for all to see.
I suppose I'm just imaging that, like the media tells me I imaged Romney won the debate last week....... < sarc >
I thought the word of the day was going to be Roctober :)
I think afraidfortherepublic sent it to me be accident.....
Duly noted.
A for you! I knew there would be some creative license today.
Recitude
From “The Big Book of Convoluted and Convulsed Conversation”(The BB of CCC): “Recitude is the having rex on the brain, usually tiny rex since there’s only so much brain to work with. Kinda like our chickens at home. Mom called them “angels” cause they was white and had wings but no flesh on ‘em.
Anyway rex is from Rex Ruther, in the Supperman comic books at the drug store where Joey’s dad says, “This ain’t no lieberry!”, And the rest of the family, Baby Ruther and just Babe Ruther.
There was a Ruth Ruther who did home repairs and danced for a living, the Ruther that was a roofer and a hoofer but she passed when she danced off a third floor, now the family is Ruthless.
But back to this having rex....wait up here...there’s rex and there’s wrecks. Maybe....Maybe rectitude is about having wrecks! Course it could be all that other stuff too.”
The BB of CCC has spoke!
I knew we could count on you. A+!
