The 12.04 trashed my Ubuntu installation and I switched to Mint with the XP-like MATE interface. Loving it and not going back.

From Microsoft’s perspective, the best that can be said of Windows 8 is that it’ll make Windows 7 into the new XP.

Haven't tried Win 8 yet so I cannot comment.  But, I just do not like the look of it and it may be a long while before I try it.

Mint is, in my opinion, the easiest distro to use.  It's the only one I've seen where everything is easy to set up and use.  Great job by the guys at Mint.
