In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
strepitous \STREP-i-tuhs\, adjective
boisterous; noisy.
Example sentences:
But what strepitous sounds, what harmonious tumult diverts my attention to another part ?
-- José Francisco de Isla, The History of the Famous Preacher, Friar Gerund de Campazas
Here is no idyllic meditative retreat from the strepitous city but a scene of virile actionfields sounding with human labor, vibrating with human energy.
-- Beulah B. Amram, "Swinburne and Carducci," The Yale Review
Etymology:
Strepitous stems from the Latin word strepit which meant "noise."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Did you love it or what? Cap’n Precious is going down.
Actually, I think this is an October surprise the news media gave to themselves.....
I was so happy last night I thought I would pee myself and I was howling thank you MSM for not teaching this empty suit how to be President. By NEVER challenging his positions for all these years.....teleprompter boy never had to know anything and it really showed last night.
It's hard to take criticism when your a Narcissist. That's why Obozo looked so uncomfortable and defensive and he absolutely didn't like being challenged so he ended up looking like he was seething at Romney all night long as well.
Yep, the shine is off and we all know that a new car never looks so good as when you first drive it off the lot...and you can't cover it up by hanging wallpaper if you don't have something solid to stick it to.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!....
Loved the line “trickle down government”.....and it does NOT work. I have been on a high since the opening minutes. Obama is going down, last night was a prelude. Instead of prepping he cruised by Hoover Dam.....and I am guessing that MO used that profanity last night while celebrating their anniversary.
all i could think about was he had to go home with her after that was over and what a nightmare that must have been!
Romney: “You don’t just pick winners and losers, you pick losers.” Then he highlights Solyndra and others. Wow. Statistic of the millions he gave to these companies equals 70 years of tax breaks for oil companies. WOW. Romney slaughtered Obama on so many issues. Mitt was AWESOME.
Between BO and MO I was wondering who was going to the get the beating and who was going to be giving it out last night.
My LOL moment was when Romeny was saying how Obama should have taken the Simpson Bowles commission plan and run with it, taking it to Congress and pushing for its passage.
Obama says “That’s what we did.”
Delusional. He believes his own BS.
oh i think MOO wears the pants in that house!! LOL!
All very true. But what's Mitt going to do for an encore, huh?
Well maybe not to the hardcore deluded believers, but to everyone else, i think Obama was finally exposed as NOT all that smart, NOT all that articulate, and that the myth of this superhuman brainiac was burst finally.
i simply cannot wait to see Beckel on the Five today, the other four will be positively strepitous. and his obsession yesterday with SPECIFICs should be completely satiated. Romney had specifics, Obama had nuttin.
Next debate is on Foreign Policy, Obama’s strong suit, right? “I killed Osama” Obama has NO successes there. I hope Romney is equally prepped for that subject. I realize biz is Romney’s strong suit, but he better keep on the offensive and dismantle the notion Obama knows anything about FP.
Speaking of hard core believers, when Bill Maher tweets that you DO need a teleprompter, you LOST.
