In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
strepitous \STREP-i-tuhs\, adjective
boisterous; noisy.
Example sentences:
But what strepitous sounds, what harmonious tumult diverts my attention to another part ?
-- José Francisco de Isla, The History of the Famous Preacher, Friar Gerund de Campazas
Here is no idyllic meditative retreat from the strepitous city but a scene of virile actionfields sounding with human labor, vibrating with human energy.
-- Beulah B. Amram, "Swinburne and Carducci," The Yale Review
Etymology:
Strepitous stems from the Latin word strepit which meant "noise."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
I’m sure Obama will be better prepared and “on his game” next time, he took this for granted it seemed. All Mitt has to do is hold steady, prepare equally well and do what he did last night. Anyone who can needle the Obams, get under his skin even a LITTLE bit, will be rewarded with him revealing himself as small, petty and think skinned, and it is not a pretty sight.
oh i know. when chrissy matthews is breaking down into tears and screaming ROMNEY IS WINNING, then you know you lost.
Romney should have hit on how Freddie and Fannie and “community organizers” led to so many bad loans. That’s probably my only complaint.
yeah, there is always room for improvement, but who really thought that he would do as spectacularly as he did? maybe Ann? maybe.
did the FPL really tear up? LMAO
One of the more fun things on twitter is to read the pundits who were, if not full-on Mitt bashers, then Mitt skeptics and deriders during the primary season, now embracing and championing him in this success. I saw someone tweet: the good news is Romney won the debate, the bad news is that he’s still a moderate. yeah, he is, and that is perhaps what will sway the independents to him. a raving rightwinger, which the unappeasable purists of FR hunger for, would have no prayer of that.
oh i have to find the video and post it, it was UNBELIEVABLY hilarious. he was SHRIEKING!
I am doing a Strepitous Happy Dance!
Last night, “O” rode in on the tepid bus
He was dull, made the right-wingers strepitous
No thoughts, no defense
Romney’s victory was immense
While Barack and the libs showed “decrepit us”
Well, let’s face it, a lot of us have 2 fears:
1. That Romney will lose.
2. That Romney will win.
Very good debate. Looks like we might just get to live with fear #2.
spoken like a true Eeyore ; ) It’s a grey gloomy day no matter how you look at it, LMAO!!
I’m sure Lehrer is getting some criticism, but I thought this was one of the few times that the candidates debated, instead of the moderator trying to insert himself into the mix with clever or “gotcha” questions. Throw out a topic and let ‘em go at it.
I liked it.
Last night, the O-rator seemed to suffer from a case of strepitous throat...
I liked the format. I liked the light hand on the moderating. I liked that the moderator did not make himself the story too.
I don't know, Neo. Maybe trim your eyebrows?
The debate format was awesome. They got to go back and forth and it highlighted their positions. Americans met the real Romney last night, and he’s getting a second date.
and i’m pretty sure, since Lehrer appears to be the focus of the libs criticism, along with Obama, that the next debate will have the moderators much more involved and more obviously attempting to help O and screw Mitt. They won’t leave that to chance again, the mod will be given his marching orders.
Hey, option #2 is preferrable....
