If Herman Cain had won the nomination I would be pulling for the black guy for the same reasons you listed in the body of your post. Race has nothing to do with it - political ideology and competence does. Capitalizing WHITE GUY in the title unnecessarily turned a political issue into a racial issue.
This was the Moderator equivalent of a forest ranger telling you to hang your food in a tree to keep the liberal bears away from it.
