“How much are you spending on your Internet connection?”

Too much! We keep thinking about canceling the internet connection, the cable TV and the cell phones. It all keeps going up, up, up, much more then my pay ever does. Whatever happened to free TV?

Calm down.

Steelers6 is only making a common sense suggestion.

It’s not like it takes a ‘brain-sturgeon’ to figure out that rampant spending on un-needed items if foolish in this economy.

Jeeze.........

Have already started...
after ‘08, we shut down most of our frivolous spending...
Now we need a new truck (live in the country) but will keep the old one going until we find out what the hell will be nailing us in the next few months.
If the taxman cometh, we don’t buyeth....

Agree
This reminds me of Jimmy Carter’s response to the energy crisis (that he created): turn off the Christmas tree lights and lower your thermostat

That is how I always spend my money. very aware of what it will not only cost today, but what it will cost down the road if I am using credit.

My wife and I have a total of $1600.00 debt, and our home is paid for. The debt we owe is what remains from a box van I bought 4 years ago for my wife. It’s a Ford van with a lift gate for her, because she is in a wheel chair.

As for Christmas, it always consists of items we can pay cash for or we do not buy them.

One reason we are in the problem we are in, is because no one saves money, and when they buy things they buy on credit. If you cannot afford it today, why would you even think you can afford it tomorrow or next week or next year? No one saves for rainy days, it’s this buy now and pay later mentality that has most Americans in trouble.

My credit rating is in the top 15%, but just because the creditors know I am a good financial risk, does not mean I should take advantage of it and go in debt. ESPECIALLY FOR CHRISTMAS!

To be in debt is to be at the whim of the politicians who have the ability to increase the debt you already owe by a mere majority vote.

I know, here is an idea, try being different then the government. If we complain that the government is spending our children’s future, why would we add to the problem by doing the same?

Americans are at the mercy of the government and banks because like the government, Americans have spent their children’s future. Until Americans wake up and quit running out to buy the newest i-phone or video, Americans will forever be a nation in crisis.

Time to wake up by beginning at home with common sense financial planning. Oh by the way, I have never ever made more then $45,000.00 a year, yet I seem to have managed to pay for my home and stay out of debt. Plus I pay for my wife’s insurance via medicare, so she doesn’t get free health care and never has.

A better alternative is to go partially underground. Buy slightly used, barter, go more cash-based and deny the feds tax money. There is no need for us and our families to suffer. Make them suffer.

I realize we can only do so much in this regard but partial galt might addd up if enogh did it. Yes some businesses would feel the effect. I am sorry for them but elections have consequences and we must find ways to starve the beast.
