Last week I was reading some old stuff from Niccolo Machiavelli. He advised rulers that when the people relied of a political figure (group) for their welfare. If that welfare is removed the citizens will riot.

Along with 'Advice to a Prince', should be Tzun Tzu 'Art of War', and Clausewitz with 'On War'.

There are some Jesuit writings on war, but I don't keep those by the desk. Just wars, and all of that.
