Fox News Airs Suicide Following Car Chase. Shep Smith: ‘We really messed up.. and I am sorry’

A man committed suicide live on Fox News a few minutes ago. FNC had been carrying a car chase in the Phoenix area and when the suspect pulled over, he ran down a dirt road, then stopped, put a gun to his head, and fell to the ground. You could hear Studio B crewmembers, who were watching a live feed of what was happening, gasp and Smith say, “Get off, get off, get off,” asking the control room to cut away. But they didn’t in time.

Fox then went to a commercial break. Upon returning, Smith said, “Well I’ve got some explaining to do.”

Smith explained that after the suspect excited the car, the network went into a five second delay, but that they failed to cut away.

“We really messed up, and we are all really sorry. That didn’t belong on TV. I personally apologize to you that that happened,” Smith added “That will not happen again on my watch, and I am sorry.”

Sorry to be abrupt. I witnessed what this young man saw in his last moments and could relate to it. I pray his spirit was rescued by Jesus. I have faith that he was. He was running from Satan, that is enough for me.

I think it would be a kind gesture if Fox would offer to pay for the man’s funeral, but I don’t know how to get in touch with them to suggest it.

You assume that Fox News cares. There is a reason why TV stations run car chases. It's not because they hope things will end well and the person will pull over and get out and lay down and wait for the police to show up.

Captain Mascara, I mean Shep Smith, along with many other talking heads, have seen plenty of footage of these things gone wrong, he even mentioned it, and yet they still push this crap. It's sad that some person was being chased by demons and ended his life the way he did, but the news stations and talking heads that play this stuff up don't lose any sleep over it.

I didn’t meant to imply that you did.

Something was obviously wrong with the guy.

I also don’t think Fox did it on purpose and I still think it would be a nice gesture if they offered to pay for the funeral.

I will ask Shep to do that. 5000 should not be out of line. Thanks for the advice.

The fact that they aired it made the ABC evening news, of course... and apparently the tape went online.

I haven’t heard any more about it.

And if they decide to do it, they should keep it quiet as ... charity is meant to be done silently and would probably be a better “I’m sorry” to this family than anything else could be.
