The original KKK was a Souvrn' phenomenon and it was pret' near a Democrat deal. The later KKK of the 1920s was an Ohio Valley phenomenon ~ and they took over the Republican party in numerous places.

There were competing KKK operations in the 1920s.

The KKK in the immediate post Civil War period was dedicated to corraling Negroes and murdering Republican politicians. The KKK in the 1920s was dedicated to supremacy over Negroes, Catholics and Jews ~ giving it an entirely different flavor.

Today's KKK is mostly irrelevant.
