My close encounter was when I worked at Pax River NAS. One part of the perimeter road had a stop sign at the tail end of a runway where pilots practiced touch and go, and catapult launches. You could look both ways, but over the water, especially there, were trees blocking part of your view. I literally stopped my car, and checked the auto for afterburner marks on one close call.
