Exactly. Most have ends cut off, meaning they were starting to go bad. If customers had taken them home, peel on, in that condition, they probably would have been unhappy with their purchase. By peeling and trimming them and packaging them so the customers can see their condition, the store may be at least saving some waste from unsold bananas.

And they will spoil even faster packaged like that. Packaging is one of my big pet peeves.
