Imelda is still alive - why don’t they give her back her shoes?

One of my best friends spent a couple of years in the Philippines. He dated one of the country’s top models. They were eating at a restaurant and noticed Imelda at a nearby table.
He is the kind of guy who can go up to anyone and end up being their friend. They said hello to her and he said she was very gracious.
He showed me several pictures of them all posing together.

Truth of the matter is that there were hundreds of small shoe manufacturers in the Philippines and they all wanted to advertise that the First Lady wore shoes that they made. To promote the industry Imelda accepted the shoes ceremoniously.
Funny how a media meme obscures the truth.
