It has been the rule since at least the 1930s that corporal punishment of children cannot include bruising, contusions, blisters, welts, scarring or has the potential to break bones.
They most definitely also prohibited the use of spanking devices other than flat paddles of a given size. No switches, straps, rods or canes. Paddles cannot have protrusions like nails or screws, no holes in them.
In this case, I strongly suggest that this assistant principal is either a sadist or a deviant, in either case getting sexual satisfaction from spanking.

Normally completely in favor of corporal punishment - but in this case I’ve got to say -hmmmmmm. The girl is awfully old and awfully cute to be spanked by a man - and maybe by anybody.
Spankings were the rule in our home until the kids hit their teen years. The being deprived of doing something with your friends was the standard punishment. I actually think it worked better. I remember having to stay home on the weekend several times when I would GLADLY have taken a spanking to avoid missing some party or event my friends were at.

Sounds like the girl got justice. But now Mom has talked with a lawyer and on advice is now ginning up a trial by media before filing a suite.

Our principal had big Bertha in his drawer and it had holes in it so their wouldn’t be wind resistance. I know first hand how it felt. I still liked my Principal and My Teacher and respected their authority!
My little butt got plenty of bruises and blisters while going though school with the rest of me, but I can’t recall hearing about the same thing happening to girls.

Physical punishment , especially spanking, is not only useless, it is marginally pedo-masochistic.

Once a child can talk, if you can’t outwit them, you are in trouble.
Teachers and principals are supposed to be educated. If you can’t figure out how to ‘discipline’ a child without resorting to physical measures, then maybe you would be better off as a prison guard.
