Talking of bumper to bumper traffic.....abd stupidity......
I live in Norfolk, VA. We are dependent upon our bridges and tunnels to get around the area. Basically, the area is divided into two regions, the Peninsula (Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg) and the Southside (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Chesapeake). There are two major arteries across the water between the two regions,(Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel HRBT and Monitor Merrimac Bridge Tunnel MMBT) and another crossing called the James River Bridge (JRB).
Last weekend, VDOT decided to have some work performed over the weekend. They closed the southbound lanes on both the HRBT and the JRB. This left one route open.
And it only takes one idiot. Someone had a wreck inside the MMBT. One person who tweeted the local news stated that a normal 45 minute drive took them 7 hours.
Now VDOT heavily advertised the closings, and people didn’t stay home. They just HAD to go.
Back in the 50’s, the province of Newfoundland (who then drove on the left) was added to the Canadaian Confederation (who drives on the right).
To ease in the change of driving from left to right, Newfoundland said trucks could remain on the left, for the next few months.
Their roundtrip hike took 'em a good half hour, and there's been zero movement during their absence.
(My boss was a stubborn old fart who refused to believe any of this sh*t since he lived three blocks from the office.....I damn near told him to shove the job up his ass)
